Wanadoo has today released the first information on RPM Tuning for the PlayStation 2. The racing game, which is currently in development at Babylon, will allow players to fully customize their chosen cars before racing on the streets of Los Angeles.

As the title suggests, the emphasis in RPM Tuning will be on allowing players to fully customize their cars' appearance and performance as they progress through the game, and today's press release states that individual cars will boast up to 1,382,976 visual variations and no less than 221,184 mechanical tuning possibilities. According to Wanadoo, each modification made to a car will have an impact on its handling, as will any damage sustained during the course of a race.

RPM Tuning will boast a total of five different gameplay modes, and in addition to straightforward racing, players will be able to indulge in a story-driven adventure mode or explore the 50 square miles of LA that have been re-created for the game as they wish in a free driving mode. The game will also feature multiplayer support for up to two drivers, although it's not yet clear in which gameplay modes this option will be available.

Wanadoo has announced that it will be publishing RPM Tuning in Europe toward the end of this year. No North American release has been confirmed at this time, but we'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
