Ubi Soft has released the first information on the Xbox version of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder, which was released as the second expansion pack for the PC version of Ghost Recon last September. The game, which Ubi Soft is describing as a stand-alone campaign disc, will not require a copy of Ghost Recon to play and has been designed with both new recruits and battle-hardened veterans in mind.
"The Clancy brand owes its incredible popularity to gamers who want an intense and realistic gameplay experience," said Alain Corre, Ubi Soft's managing director for Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and South America. "With this new campaign disc, Ubi Soft Entertainment can give back to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon fans, providing them with more of their favorite Ghost action."
No details have been released concerning the single-player content of Island Thunder, but the campaign disc will feature 12 different game types and no less than 12 multiplayer maps for Xbox Live play, including four from the original Ghost Recon. Players who purchase the campaign disc will also have access to additional missions and maps that will be released via Xbox Live in the future.
"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is one of our most popular games on Xbox Live and has everyone going wild," said Michel Cassius, European director of Xbox platform, Microsoft. "With Xbox Live, gamers can download exciting new content like missions and maps, injecting new energy into the gameplay and keeping games like this fresh and engaging."
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder is currently scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year. We'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available. In the meantime, you might be interested to check out our full review of the PC version of Island Thunder.
