First look: Dino Island
Monte Cristo's upcoming strategy game will let players manage their own dinosaur theme park. New screens inside.
Monte Cristo came by the GameSpot office today with a playable build of Dino Island, its upcoming dinosaur theme park management game. While the build we saw was in the early alpha stage, it showed off the game's colorful 3D environments, structures, and animals. Players begin the game with an empty island, and they must build it into a thriving theme park featuring rides, restaurants, gift shops, and the main attraction, dinosaurs.
Dino Island includes a base set of 20 types of dinosaurs, and players can breed, clone, and genetically modify their creatures to create an almost limitless variety of animals. Once they have created their dinosaurs, they can add attractions such as fighting arenas, dinosaur races, dinosaur team sports, and other events.
As in other theme park management games, players must keep their guests happy by adding enough restaurants, boutiques, and other services. Players can check the park statistics to determine which kinds of services would best be suited to their clientele.
We've posted some new screenshots in the gallery above that show off some of the game's dinosaurs, environments, and structures. Dino Island is in development internally at Monte Cristo, and it is scheduled for release in May. For more information, visit the game's official Web site.
