The series is based on a novel that was co-written by Del Toro and published in 2008. An official synopsis for the show reads:

DreamWorks TROLLHUNTERS will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around the residents of the fictional suburb of Arcadia who make a startling discovery that the world beneath their hometown is as vast and mind-blowing as anything on the surface. A global must-see viewing event for the entire family, DreamWorks TROLLHUNTERS will bring viewers of all ages around the world into the rich and creative mind of Guillermo del Toro.

Although no broadcast date has been announced, it is expected to hit Netflix later this year.

In February, it was reported that the much-delayed sequel to Del Toro's 2014 sci-fi action hit Pacific Rim was moving ahead. Del Toro confirmed that the film would now be directed by Daredevil writer Steven S. DeKnight, while he would remain on board as a producer. Del Toro has also been attached to a remake of the sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage.
