First details on Borderlands game from Walking Dead dev coming next month

Telltale Games and Gearbox Software to unveil first details on Tales From the Borderlands during SXSW in Austin, Texas, on March 8.

If you're curious about what a Borderlands game from The Walking Dead developer Telltale Games might look like, you don't have to wait much longer to find out. TellTale Games and Gearbox Software will together unveil the first details on Tales from the Borderlands next month during SXSW in Austin, Texas.

Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, Borderlands 2 writer Anthony Burch, and Borderlands franchise director Matthew Armstrong will be joined onstage by Telltale president Kevin Bruner and designer Harrison Pink to discuss the new joint venture.

They will talk about how Gearbox and TellTale got together and reveal the "first glimpses" of how the story will play out. As you'd expect, attendees will also be able to ask questions. The panel will take place at the SXSW Gaming Expo on Saturday, March 8, at 5:30 p.m.

Tales From the Borderlands was announced during the VGX Awards in December. The first episode in the series is due out through digital distribution this year.

TellTales Games would appear to have a full plate. The company's currently announced and in-development projects include Tales From the Borderlands, The Wolf Among Us, the second season of The Walking Dead, and a new Game of Thrones adventure series.

I very much look forward to seeing what the awesome story tellers at Telltale Games can come up with in the fantastic universe of Borderlands.

How can you get excited for a game that plays the same as their other games. For me, walking dead was a one trick pony. Good story, but really hardly any gameplay.

It´s very reasonable to have concerns about this game, but I personally think putting Telltale and gearbox together, very little can go wrong, and this is going to be great.

Can I just wait and get a bundle that has BL2 w/ all 27 DLCs and then this game with all 9 DLCs?

The art style fits perfectly between the studio's, but I don't see how an adventure dev would translate a high paced FPS gameplay wise?

Borderlands with a Telltale narrative structure for the game is going to be awesome.

Its likely going to end up feeling like the ultimate redneck adventure game.

I bought Telltale's The Walking Dead game when it was on a Steam Sale as I didn't think the game was quite worth the original price. I really enjoyed the storyline, and I am certain I'll enjoy whatever storyline they will create for Borderlands. The gameplay itself will probably lackluster (though I hope the devs learned and improved in this aspect), but I can certainly enjoy the game for its story telling.

If it's another boring point and click game (which it most likely is) I'm not interested.

Can't wait for this. As a game, The Walking Dead was pretty meh and I'm glad I bought it for $10, however, I was very involved with the story and TellTale, surprisingly enough, kept me hooked despite it being a point n' click adventure - which usually turn me off somethin' fierce.

That talent combined with one of my favorite game series this last gen, not to mention one of the best FPS games in a looong time, guarantees a day one buy for me. I really hope to see this take place during the 5 years between 1 and 2, possibly showing Hyperion's initial invasion, the fall of New Haven and the scattering of the original Vault Hunters.

Totally NOT going to buy this.  Bordlands is meh and I despise point and click games.

It's the story about how the vault hunters all become pacifists, lay down their weapons, join a monastery, and slowly walk a restrictive pre-determined path, interacting with random objects, while contemplating the meaning of life.

I could swear that they were telling a story in the FPS Borderlands games and it went just fine with the shooter gameplay. I'm not sure how I feel about this other than hesitation. Maybe I'll get it during a Steam sale someday, but personally I prefer Borderlands as a shooter with a Diablo loot system that still tells a story.

Well that's one Telltale I WON'T be buying for a change. Fuck Gearbox.

Idiots this is all about story. The story in Tales of the BLands will lead up to the story in BLands 3. Thats why they're doing it.

You guys saying this is gonna suck have no idea of how Borderlands story line works...
Listen to the echo recorders, the story is much more DEEPER than you think... This is gonna be great for storytelling...

who knows maybe tell tale will change it up and have the shooting part be a first person shooter.

Well borderlines is a shooter not point and click game so really this going to destroy what borderlines is.

@terrariafan247 While not traditionally fun, their games are usually quite interesting and have fun stories. Their Back to the Future game felt like the 4th movie, which equates to being awesome.

SingletreeAve

@terrariafan247 Yeah.  Borderlands should be a click, click, boom game.  Next they're going to want to add romance and moral decisions.

@Fursnake The story in Tales of the BLands leads up to the story in Blands 3. New characters, old characters dying, etc..

Drkr_Zen

@Fursnake  Agreed. However, I won't knock it 'til I try it. If its one thing BL2 did exceptionally well, its give the series a lot of lore. And, I'd love to learn more about the 5 years we missed out on between 1 and 2.

@playstationzoneBorderlands is a massive, fictious universe full of potential opportunities. It could include books, films, whatever. Another game set in that series doesn't have to be a shooter to be good.

DamnILoveGames
DamnILoveGames

@playstationzone I've got to say I really do agree. The majority of the point of playing Borderlands was acquiring better guns, shields etc. When you get rid of that, there's really not much left that makes it stand out.

masterfortesque

@playstationzone Oh this is like Lego. After Borderlands it's going to be Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, Starcraft and WoW "the point and click" edition.

I guess there's market in people who can't decide between watching a movie or playing a game

@wintersizzle @tinyname  The guy was just giving his opinion.  Does a person not have the right to hate certain genres of games now in fear of upsetting the fanboys?

@spartanx169x @PatrickLevy  Not just you dude I love Borderlands and I love Borderlands 2 even more but turning shooter/RPG in to clicking game is not what I want I want treasure I want to shoot some badass monsters bosses discovering new spots hidden treasure . I want quests that are not kill 10 bandits bring me 10 buritos or whatever. I want great and funny storyline Borderlands are known for but most importantly I WANT GUNS lots of GUNS.

Drkr_Zen
Drkr_Zen

@The-Neon-Seal @playstationzone  That's how I view it. I just hope it doesn't pull an Assassin's Creed and oversaturate the series. Couple books, couple comics, episodic content and call it a day.

Drkr_Zen
Drkr_Zen

@DamnILoveGames @playstationzone  Yeah, that awesome writing, humor, voice acting, cast of characters, narrative and rich atmosphere all accounts for nothin' without shooty bang bangs, MIRITE?

Drkr_Zen
Drkr_Zen

@DamnILoveGames @Drkr_Zen  True enough, but you made it sound like you're a typical XBOX gamer... I'm not shooting something every 3 seconds? This game's horrible!

The writing, humor, voice acting and atmosphere all being great is a fact, however. Sorry. :P

DamnILoveGames
DamnILoveGames

@Drkr_Zen Whoa, am I not entitled to have an opinion and personal reasons for buying a game now? Yes you are right, but you also couldn't be more wrong, because an opinion is subjective.

DamnILoveGames
DamnILoveGames

@The-Neon-Seal It had its moments, but a lot of the humour was a tad too immature for my tastes. I personally played it to keep one upping the power my character already had.

spartanx169x
spartanx169x

@playstationzone @spartanx169x I don't know much about them , That's why I  was asking. I have high expectations because of how good the other games are .  IF they make the game like The walking dead game I will not be buying it.
