First Borderlands DLC out now for PC

2K and Gearbox release desktop edition of The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned for open-world RPG-shooter, priced at $10.

2K Games and Gearbox Software have been clear about the ambitions of downloadable content for their fast-selling new property Borderlands, saying that they hope to release a number of add-ons for the game. In November, the first of those expansions arrived for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the form of The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned. However, little has been heard about the status of the PC launch of the Borderlands expansion.

The dead walk in Borderlands.

That changed this week, though, as Gearbox has released the PC version of The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned. Those who picked up the retail edition of Borderlands can buy the add-on pack for $9.99 through Gearbox's Web site. Versions of the game purchased through digital distribution services, such as Steam, can find the add-on through their respective channels.

The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned will feature undead opponents aplenty, accidentally created by the titular doctor. Players will join up with the semimad scientist to track down his creations, which are running amok in a new region the DLC adds to the game, Jakobs Cove. The new area will also be infested with were-skags, which are fearsome cousins of the aggressive scaled creatures that infest the planet Pandora, the game's setting.

piracy is just a lame excuse for lame PC ports like those of EA's. XBOX 360, PSP, PS2 are just as pirated as PCs but games are still being released for them. and you say piracy is killing PC? must have been leaving in a cave for like ~10 years THIS DUDE IS SPEAKING THE TRUTH

Piracy is stealing, simple, if you are pirating don't be delusional and just admit you are stealing.

This game is a joke on pc, last ditch effort of gearbox to steal money from pc users by giving them crap before they go completely console focused.

@oneligas I put a lot of time and money into my computer cause I use it for more than just gameing, I also happen to prefer fps games on a pc, so I dont mind waiting for patches and mods, or recently, dlc, cause its very rewarding when I finally get it and play it on the pc I worked hard at putting together myself. its more of a hobby than anything, personaly I dont think theres any rule of thumb when it comes to gameing, it different for everyone, and based on your own personal preferences.

hey PC gamers you should always wait a year so then the mods, updates and DLC are all there for the picking. just look at games like Morrowind/Oblivion/Fallout 3 the mods are freakish and buy now all the bugs official patches/unofficial patches have cleaned these in ridiculous fashion. the rule of thumb should be get the game first on a console, finish it, trade it in towards the PC version, buy then most updates/DLC/mods are starting to come out

@tomsteryeah Hours and hours of joyless repetitious gameplay full of bugs, exploits, and lag and 7 year old homophobes screaming into their mics who've played since the original call of duty 1 and could probably peg me with a pistol a mile away. Sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Never bought the game and probably wont until 5 years from now when the game costs $10

@tripwolf What does having the PC after ps3 and 360 after they are obsolete mean? The pc version of the game was released later so of course the DLC will be released later. What about ps3 getting DLC for fallout MONTHS after xbox got the last one? they were just getting Point lookout! Would you rather get the DLC same time with bugs or later without any?

So far its been a lot of fun (although I hate those bat things!!!) and well spent $10 dollars. Haven't beaten it yet, but I'm working on it.

Love to see the next DLC take place in that factory you see at Earl's Scrapyard, or maybe a cool mission where you assault Atlus' mothership or base or something. It would also be nice to see a REAL vault full of Eridian goodies, maybe something like Oblivion's dagger dungeon DLC. Just a great big dungeon to revisit.

Full game on Steam is $50, at Newegg its $45 with free shipping ? $5 extra to not have a CD.

Hopefully it's better than Bethesda's latest attempt at DLC. All those packs added were bugs!

Beat it in 4 hours. It was fun and worth it. On a side note, I suppose for $10 thats a better deal than Modern Warfare 2 seeing as how it costs $60 and gets me the same amount of gameplay.

I just bought the DLC, and I must say I love it very much. I owned this game on the 360, but due to a new PC build and my friend having on PC I just got the PC version afterwards instead. I must say the game is much better with mouse and key board, but than again that is a preference thing. I don't mind buying games, or paying for DLC, but if they start doing cookie cutter DLC the developers will not get my money that is for sure. I do spend a lot on video games and I think I spend way more than I should, but its a entertainment medium that is worth it to me. I am not sure what this whole argument is about PS3/360/PC, as I own all three and most of my FPS gaming is done on my desktop again keyboard/mouse combo is my choice. I hope 2k does not ignore the PC community as it has plenty of money to go around if the product it worth while. Also, this is my first post hope it has been a good one.

DRM is quite useless imo. In any case it's gonna be cracked soon enough @salad10203 piracy doesn't hurt anyone, cause these stats are also available for the publisher, so it could raise the pricetag, to gain profit. You don't hurt anyone by it. It just how the world works, don't thank me you're welcome.

@nocturial: Did you do any research at all? It costs 10$ for PC and PS3 and 800 "Microsoft Point" ((which is actually 12.50$ if you buy 1000, you can't buy 800 exactly but if you previously had some points you could get it for 10$))

@dewwy Just because the console crowd is so easily duped into overpaying for "DLC" (as opposed to legitimate expansions), doesn't mean we should ALL put up with it. It's not that PC people are too good for it, it's that console people are just stupid enough.

Raephius

Wow, has this comment board has turned into a fanboy repository...? DLC is part of the "Next Gen" and no amount of whining on a GameSpot news story will change that. Companies want money, so live with it. PC, console, who cares? Borderlands rocks. PC rocks. PS3 rocks. X360... Rocks in a Microsoft-flavored way. So if you wanna play the handful of extra quests, then pay the 10 bucks. No more belly-itching, children...

I am a pc gamer and I don't care about DRM at all. I have never had any problems and I am not worried about 5 installations because why would I ever reinstall a game, FIVE TIMES. And anyone who doesn't believe that piracy is hurting PC gaming, just search piracy stats on google and you can learn how bad it really is.

L_i_o_n
L_i_o_n

@Exostenza What if you format your harddrive 5 times? Logically you cant install it anymore. In the eyes of DRM you still have the game installed.

Exostenza
Exostenza

There is a lot of misinformation about the DRM installation restrictions. You can only have 5 CONCURRENT installations before you get cut off. That means if you uninstall and then install you can do that as many times as you want. You can have it installed 5 times without installing it at all and after that you have to uninstall it once to get another install. This is no problem what so ever for any of us. Anyone that complains about this is ridiculous and who here has 5 separate installations of 1 copy of a game at once? Although I think DLC is greedy on PC market because, unlike the helpless console kiddies, we can make our own content. I would still say that this is worth it.

badtaker

I have no words how to describe dlc of borderlands. It has drm,it is $10. This is revolutionary dlc for pc imo (drm) I love 6th gen more than current gen. The current gen is full of greed.

dewwy

Man, no wonder PC gaming is dying a slow death... PC gamers were complaining that "We no has zombiez!" and "Gearbox = no PC luv". Well now you have the DLC and you're paying as much for it as everyone else but you're throwing a fit because... you have to pay the same amount as everyone else! If you don't want to pay the price for it, just do what everyone else does - don't buy it.

It's not even the expense that gets me, its that The DLC has... DRM on it. Borderlands ITSELF has NO DRM, yet it's DLC does?! I can install Borderlands whenever I want but only the DLC five times? This isn't a matter of calling up and getting more activation times, its a matter of you put DRM on DLC. What is the point?

Ummm are you on drugs the DLC was 10 bucks for consoles too........ignorance.......

This is bull****!! why do WE have to pay for something that console gamers have for free?! Borderlands is cool and i love it, but paying 10$ for a dlc that consolers have for free is a rip-off !! sorry Gearbox but you suck big time...

god damn this slowly increasing number of paid dlc for pc, thanks alot consolers, this stuff used to be free for us while u sat around playing sinlgeplayer on ur "next gen" ps2/xbox, then slowly consoles get popular online and boom!!.....whatever not that i care about this botched console to pc port anyway
