Fire Emblem DLC censored - Report

Images show latest DLC for Awakening altered for North America and Europe to block out character's behind.

'

It appears Nintendo has censored the latest Fire Emblem: Awakening downloadable content.

As NeoGAF and IGN point out, the Summer Scramble DLC in North America and Europe censors out Tharja's behind, which is presented in full in the Japanese version.

A pictorial breakdown of the two versions is available below.

IGN reports that everything else in the DLC, including images of other characters in swimsuits, was not altered in any way. Nintendo has not commented on the matter.

Seriously? People were complaining about a nonexistant ass being censored with a sheet? You people are acting like she was fully naked and they put black bars over it. Grow the hell up, get a girlfriend, see her ass for free and uncensored anytime you want.

Guys, it's not the whole of Nintendo that does this. It's just Nintendo of America... who like do censor stuff for no reason. :I

Seriously people cry about Nintendo not catering to older gamers but they do, but we never see over here in the states when they do it... Because of dumb stuff like this. :(

Lol. Blocking the panties just looks like she doesn't wear anything at all.

I'd say it looks even more suggestive now.

Why is this a surprise? Is this the first time something was censored in American video games?

One word: bullsh*t. What is the point of this anyway? Are they afraid that som kids might find out that underneath their clothes people have naked skin? Or that they actually have asses??

I'm glad Sakura Wars So Long My Love hasn't gotten into this trouble.

Another classic fail by Nintendo

Censoring this is just utterly ridiculous and over-the-top.  I thought we lived in the 21st Century, not the 19th!

Don't even own a 3DS, but I have to wonder what the hell Nintendo was thinking. Japanese game developers are getting too censor happy when it comes to releasing stuff in the west. If people were offended by this kind of stuff they wouldn't buy it. And if they are, who cares? Nintendo would've already gotten the money for the purchase.

Why even bother?  You left the side boob alone.

I think the censored version is more seductive. Sometimes leaving something to the imagination is worse.

ooooh is it just me or is this seems stupid is not just like children can't get is crap on the internet

They need to censor that long, flowing hair. I find it highly suggestive. Better still, just wrap the whole character up in that curtain and call it a day. Better still, why are we even depicting the female form in these games? Some people obviously can't handle that shit.

Yet again japan gets too keep the cool stuff...

Hide your children! It's SO suggestive!!!

Why should Nintendo get off their asses and make new IPs when they just censor asses in their existing ones?

Gotta love all the censorship we get in this "land of the free".

I'm more concerned about them censoring feets actually.

We should have a competition of having photo shoots like this picture. Hopefully not in such a bad taste but something cute to look at. Besides, it's not every day, we get the best picture on display for everyone to see.

Two asspics on the front page in one day? I am proud, Gamespot. Keep 'em coming.

DO NOT SUPPORT CENSORSHIP IN GAMES. DO NOT BUY! I can see woman's behind in bikinis if I go to beach. Let me lie down! I'm not going to buy any censored stuff, ever. Just put the freaking mature rating if the content is for mature people ffs.

@Cloud_765 Well, don't forget - they still carry that "kid" image behind them.  And I think it's hurting them (along with the Wii U debacle).

@LinkLuigi

It is not the surprise per se, but the trouble people have suspending their disbelief. Pretty much everyone believes we should already be over shit like this.

@Mortz_88 You do know Nintendo has nothing to do with this right? Every other country will get to see that ass.  Blame American parents that bitch about dumb shit like this

xXl_z3r0_lXx
xXl_z3r0_lXx

@LesserAngel Sorry, it's not Nintendo, but America itself. Over here, the politicians, dumbass parents, and general media corporations believe that if any one of the female gender shows even the tiniest "sexual" (in quotes because in America, sexual has a different definition than everywhere else.) anything, it should never be seen by younger audiences ever under any circumstances. Same goes with blood.

SoulxReaperx366
SoulxReaperx366

@kohle36 people who can't handle it simply shouldn't buy it. Games should be exactly what the makers want them to be. They do rate games for the appropriate age, if parents let their kids get the games anyways they have no one to blame but themselves.

@JustPlainLucas

So I assume you're definitely going to buy the new IPs that Miyamoto and Retro are working on right?

xXl_z3r0_lXx
xXl_z3r0_lXx

@mrboone01 Remember Xenosaga? The third one was plagued by censorship. The American version had all the blood removed making quite a few scenes not make any sense at all and there were entire chunks of the ending sequence just flat out removed. Those games were on the PS2. This is an America thing. Not a Nintendo thing,

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@mrboone01

Nevermind the fact that this game is meant to be enjoyed by older more skilled players, despite being the most "beginner friendly" Fire Emblem entry to date. Only insecure people would label something a "kiddie console" the rest just simply enjoy what they like regardless of whether or not they're the target audience of the game.

PosiTVEMinD355

@smtgfx @HiImUPSMan  Lol real men don't own Nintendo? Then what does that make sony and MS if all the kids are on their systems?  Real gamers own everything

theR34p3R
theR34p3R

@smtgfx @HiImUPSMan And REAL MEN do not post puerile garbage like you do. Also REAL MEN have a brain that actually does its job (psst... it's called thinking). This is not Nintendo's doing but some bureaucratic institution flexing its censoring muscle.

ejay_kain

@SoulxReaperx366 @kohle36 lots of people still do not get that, better yet they even win lawsuits. Nintendo is playing it safe. i do not blame Nintentdo

xXl_z3r0_lXx
xXl_z3r0_lXx

@viciouskiller @nate1222 Nintendo of America had to censor it because the female figure itself is considered suggestive here and therefore they don't allow anyone under 17 to see images like someone in a bikini. This is definitely the government at fault.

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@ShadowofSonic
A month ago now qualifies as "sooooo long?" Last major IP that Miyamoto developed became a hit series and arguably the best RTS game on consoles so there's obvious reason to be excited, and then we have Retro Studios, whose track record has been nothing short of amazing.

Since I'm assuming you're talking about major IPs, last new one to come from Nintendo came out a year (or 2 depending on where you live) ago, Xenoblade.

RavageCobra

@abHS4L88 @The_Beanster The funniest part about it is that the censored version looks far more provocative than the uncensored. It looks like Chrom's cape really. As someone already pointed out, it looks like he's moving in...

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@The_Beanster

Lol, I honestly don't know the reasoning behind this "censoring" (If you must call it that) since it does imply that she's hiding more than just a bikini but yeah, Fire Emblem has never been a "kiddie" game and for the most part, has always been rather brutal.
