Mindscape readies new 3D adventure for release next week.

Comments

No, it's not Lord of the Rings, but Mindscape is shipping another game about a ring that is perhaps almost as famous but for a completely different reason.

Developed by Cryo Interactive and Arxel Tribe, Ring should hit stores sometime in the next week. It is a 3D adventure game featuring a 360-degree point-of-view and is based on the tale of the Ring of the Nibelungen. Gamers can play one of four characters from the story. The game features an hour of full-screen animation and a nonlinear storyline.

More appropriately, the game is loosely based on 19th century composer Richard Wagner's retelling of the tale in his operatic "Ring cycle," though the game is set some 2000 years in the future. Wagner's Ring cycle contains some of the most famous music in recent history; in fact, you'll be able to hear it in the game, because it features a full-length score of musical highlights from the Ring cycle by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the late Sir Georg Solti.
