Final version of State of Decay hits Steam tomorrow

Undead Labs releasing final version of open-world zombie game on PC through Steam tomorrow, November 5.

by

The final version of State of Decay for PC will be available tomorrow, November 5, through Steam, developer Undead Labs has announced.

State of Decay originally released for PC via Steam in September through Early Access.

Those who paid $20 for the Early Access version will receive the final version, for free and with no need to restart, when the game officially launches tomorrow.

State of Decay launched in June 2013 for Xbox 360 and has sold over 1 million copies to date across the Xbox 360 and Early Access versions.

Undead Labs teased last month that it is "so close" to announcing State of Decay's first downloadable expansion.

The lagging issue still persists on the final game on ultra settings. FPS drops to like 15-20 in some areas. I own a GTX 770. Damn it, I really hoped they would optimize the game by now. Have to wait for more patches I guess.

What is it with these final versions? Why can't you just release one final game without the runaround?

It's not ready to be released unless they are just going by the developer standard of releasing things lacking in optimization and bug fixes. Still numerous bugs and glitches that need fixing, needs optimization to handle high GPU heat issues with the game and it doesn't have support for resolutions higher than 1920x1200 which is pretty lame for a PC game. I actually kind of wish I had not bought the pre-release now as it looks like crap on a 30 inch monitor at 1920x1200. I'm sure the lack of support for higher resolutions seems inconsequential to many considering that older games like Half-Life 2 and even current indie-ish games like How to Survive or even freaking Dark Matter have full resolution support it is disappointing to this gamer that Undead Labs can't manage it.

The keyboard and mouse controls work decent at least.

State Of Decay is a really fun game once you get the hang of things, the whole social system in the game is a great way to encourage players to make supply runs and do favors while the main missions move along the story.

I grabbed the early access right away and it was a great deal considering I've been playing since alpha while others wait, for about $20 that's a good deal (so are some of Steams other early access games) considering you get to follow the games progress update after update til final release.

I can't wait to see what they have for extra content.

Waiting for the final version and comments about how the M+K controls do.

Nice! The pc version is even better than the 360 version!

Considering I bought the early access and every version thus far is unplayable for me (constant crashing, inconsistent fps) I am mildly skeptical that this can be called a final release.

@berserker66666  Am..i think it must be a software problem ,since on my end of the table on ultra it never falls under 40 50 fps and i have a 660 one...Maybe update drivers or upgrade other parts of your pc..have a nice day man :)

@tightwad34 As with Minecraft, the new thing now is to have the general public alpha and beta test games at a reduced cost. So really if you purchased the early access you were essentially given access to helping test a game. If you don't mind playing through bugs, etc, it's worth it i think. I've had a blast with the game so far.

@Adenosine I can agree with this totally. The George Romero mod let's you add MORE zombies, deadlier attacks (one bite will put you in a critical state), louder guns, more fragile cars, slow zombies only, fast zombies only, etc. I love it! Makes the game more challenging for sure especially if you open fire, be prepared for a shit storm of zombies.

@Tripwolf Mouse and keyboard work well. From what i've seen, it isn't completely in place yet, but you can use mouse and keyboard with no problem.

@kozzy1234  Well, let's wait and see the reality of it. Seems most games are having major problems after release. Maybe this game will be an exception. Or maybe it will be buggy and erratic.

@emacdaddy08 If you are nVIDIA user , uninstall your driver and install 314.22 driver . Latest drivers are crap , causes games to crash and run terribly .

@Anigmar @mkeezay22 I've been using a 360 controller which was needed at first, idk if it has full keyboard support yet but I can use my mouse to aim and shoot, obviously the aiming is much better with my mouse
