Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn third beta phase starts this June

Next phase to include PS3 version testers and player-matching features.

by

Square Enix has announced that it will be rolling out its third beta test phase for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on June 14.

PS3 Final Fantasy fans can now be part of FF XIV: ARR's beta-testing.

In this build, the testing for the PS3 version of the game will start and will coincide with the testing of the PC version. Players who have accounts for the original Final Fantasy XIV title on PC will qualify as testers in this third phase. The level cap for characters will still be 35.

Player-matching features and the level sync party options will be available in this phase for players to check out. Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah leveling paths are also added for this session. For more information, check out the beta roadmap here. Players who still wish to participate in the beta can do so here.

The game will launch on August 27 for the PS3 and PC. Check out GameSpot's preview for more information.

The Disarster Reborn more like. Remaking this shitty game has more or less thrown the money down the toliet once again. Reaching another beta sequence ensures more crap.

Wow this article needs some corrections...

"Square Enix has announced that it will be rolling out its third beta test phase for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on June 14."

Third phase starts June 28th, ends July 14th*, phase four (which is open beta) starts after that.

"Players who have accounts for the original Final Fantasy XIV title on PC will qualify as testers in this third phase. The level cap for characters will still be 35"

In the words of the Square-Enix Beta road map (that they even linked to themselves): "Version 1.0 characters can be used.* In this case, the level cap will be that of the Version 1.0 character’s." Original characters will NOT have a level cap of 35, so long as they were originally above 35.

I'm willing to give Square-Enix the benefit of the doubt with this remake.  Their reputation, not to mention their future as a developer, depend on this game being well received.  Whether they ever recoup the development costs from that throwaway alpha AND Realm Reborn is doubtful, but S/E needs to make the best of a bad situation.

That said, I hope Square-Enix is considering a free-to-play option to introduce players to Realm Reborn.  After the last debacle, people need to see the game in action before they can rightly be asked to open their wallets.

Great character, Open World, Awesome Combat System = What FF was

Anything regarding FF now = shit.

Please Square-Enix, please. Put FF in the place it deserves

Gotta love how much people moan about a company admitting a game is broken and trying to fix it... It may not be everyones cup of tea, but I'd suggest trying it while it's free, personally I don't tend to play MMO's much, but I can say the exploration in this game is very nice, rivals a lot of the single player FF's...

Monthly subscription = no buy for me

I'm bit on the edge if I should buy this. I really enjoyed the beta and would love to play more, hopefully everyone who got into earlier beta will get into third phase :) But it'll still have that damn subscription which I just hate. It's still quite cheap, only 25€ on PC and greenmangaming always gives awesome discounts

I'd suggest people sign up for the beta and take a look at the game for themselves. If you don't like it then fine, it won't have cost you a penny. Phase 4 will be an open beta.

Been waiting for this game to come on the PS3. So am glad it's finally arrived. However, can some one enlighten me. I know there is a subscription when playing the PC version. But will the PS3 also have one?. If so how will the subscription work on the PS3 platform?. Can someone tell me, or will it break your disclosure agreement. If the disclosure agreement is still in effect that is.

PC looks better

it's so sad that frames on PS3 are low

@GreenFreak21 The third phase started on the 14th. There is no set date when phase 3 ends, only that it would be 1-4 weeks *Subject to change* as always.  The statement that level caps at 35 isn't incorrect, just not the whole story. Characters already above that were whatever level they were, but if your lv49 than you won't be able to level any further.

@TheShadowKing Nope. Keys (even for PC phase 3) haven't been sent out yet. When they do there are always tons of questions on the forums. We can always tell when they are sent out lol.

@JRLennis That is the purpose of Phase 4 Open Beta. As of this time, I have not seen anything about there being a F2P discussion.

Aidryen
Aidryen

@JRLennis That's the whole point of the Phase 4 Open Beta as players are concerned. There never has been F2P on a Final Fantasy MMO and there has not been any discussion for doing so as far as I've seen. Phase 3 Closed is currently running and I'm guessing within the next month the open beta will launch.

@JRLennis Don't even dream about it with the amount of money they put in there is no chance for a F2P and i for one would not even play it if it turned F2P there is a reason FFXI remained untouched by trolls.

@Mr_Mark_Legion If you can get into any aspects of Beta, I actually found this game enjoyable.

I HATED the first incarnation of the game. It took me probably 1 hour to love this version.

Everything is different. From battle mechanics to layout. I think a lot of the detractors will change their mind if they are willing to give this game one more chance.

With that said, SE burned A LOT of bridges with the last FFXIV. They need to do so much more for the people who bought into FFXIV the first time around.

@JimmeyBurrows its not so much the admitting its broken and trying to fix it....more a problem with how it managed to get into that state in the first place

@WhiteStormy Same for me, and actually that's why I have a PS3 instead of a 360 in the first place, I dont want to be charged for playing a multiplayer... It's a shame though, cuz the game looks promising.

@ManatuBeard Keep your head up. The game is awesome so far and even if you don't get an invite into the closed beta, the open beta is right around the corner!

@Sporks_Calamity

Yes, it will have a monthly fee for both PC and the PS3.  The same was true with FFXI and the PS2/360 back when they were released for those systems.

It's $12.95/mo for one character (per server) or $14.95/mo for eight (per server); the normal discounts apply if you buy 3 and 6 months at once as opposed to monthly.  You really only need one as each character will be able to master every class/job/craft in the game.  Though I personally plan to make multiple characters for extra storage and the like.

MMOs in general tend to save people a lot of money as they usually play one that they like exclusively as opposed to buying a new $60 game a week.  But there are logical assertions for and against such a system.  As a whole I'll try and support the game myself since it was probably costly to remake a game in it's entirety (engine and all).  :)

EllieRyan

@Sporks_Calamity The PS3 version will have the same subscription model, and I assume they'll make it so you can pay for it through the Square-Enix accounts webpage, if not somehow through the PS3 interface.

@amir_g_m

As Ifrit said, the new tour video released a week or so ago shows much improvement in that area.  Though the PS3 is working 8 year old technology, so it's natural the PC will have far better graphics.

IfritCharlie
IfritCharlie

@amir_g_m The framerate has improved dramatically from that shown in the tour of eorzea video. PS3 optimisation was still taking place when it was made. The PS3 gameplay we saw in the Live letter a few days ago was a million times better.

@xxShogunz806xx @wonderdave212 Right now the servers are only open for testing on weekends(subject to change of course). Currently the testing schedule is for this weekend - Friday, 21st, at 2am PDT - Sunday 2am PDT.

@SirNormanislost @JimmeyBurrows Exactly! And how they ever since haven't said a effing single word about FF XV -.-

Just because they f*cked up so extremely bad with XIV all who are starving for a new and outstanding single player FF, especially after we got left pretty dissapointed by XIII have to wait till we're old for XV -__-

EllieRyan
EllieRyan

@JimmeyBurrows That's fine, sure, but that's not entirely relevant to this game. They fired the director and brought in a whole new team to remake this game. It's not like they're just trying to smooth out some of the rough edges on a broken game, they've completely remade it. New engine, new servers, everything.

Mr_Mark_Legion
Mr_Mark_Legion

@RPGOmen i feel the same. if ima play an mmo, i tend to only play that game. so 4 months of playing x numbers of hours (days? lol) over 1 game for the same time period is more attractive to me, let alone mmos are my fav genre.

@xxShogunz806xx @ZerosionFerodat @wonderdave212 Video and audio(yes that includes streaming) of anything in the beta are the only things that fall under the NDA now. Anyone who does post them risks getting permanently banned. As for why they chose to keep this part of the NDA up? I don't know. I'm not gonna question it either. :)

@decoy1978 @Dk_Knight_Ronin @JimmeyBurrows Yep Decoy's definitely right.  First impression means everything, especially when it comes to MMO's.  I personally did not try FFXIV because I wasn't a big fan of XI, but I will try this new incarnation coming up only because this is one of those rare time when you see someone rebuild an MMO again from the grounds up and, despite the years of disappointment  I am willing to give Square Enix a chance.  We'll see how things go.

decoy1978
decoy1978

@Dk_Knight_Ronin @JimmeyBurrows It doesn't matter.... if someone ripped you off would you be willing to go back after they told you, "Dood, its different now, that guy who ripped you off, hes gone. In fact its a whole new company!"

Not many people will... its called burning bridges in the first place.

With that said, I REALLY hope people give FFXIV RR a solid chance. I DESPISED the first incarnation but playing the beta phases of RR, its so much fun. THIS is what FFXIV should have been in the first place.

If people give it a chance, they will be surprised. If they don't, well.. its SE's own fault... some things you just can't forgive in the gaming world. Releasing an Alpha game is one of them.
