Final Fantasy XIII-2 preorder plans announced

Preorder bonuses available in US stores; DLC up for download following Japanese launch.

by

At the recent Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix announced a custom PS3 for Final Fantasy XIII-2 and confirmed that there would be downloadable content up for grabs for its upcoming RPG sequel. The company has now announced more details about the game, outlining its preorder and DLC deals for both North America and Japan.

Preorder a copy for extra costumes for the protagonists.

In the US, if gamers preorder the game at GameStop, they will receive an in-game alternate costume for main character Serah. Players who preorder the game through Amazon.com will receive an in-game unique coliseum battle against a boss named Omega. If beaten, the beast will join the player's party. Role-playing game fans who preorder the title at Best Buy outlets will receive a Final Fantasy XIII Episode i novella book that bridges the story gap between Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel.

In Japan, Noel's alternate in-game costume, in addition to Serah's costume and the Omega battle, will be available for purchase and download right after the game's release in the country on December 15.

The company is also offering preorder download codes for gamers who reserve a copy at certain places in Japan. Gamers who preorder the title at Lawsons or HMV will get a download code for Serah's angel bow that converts the damage it deals to foes into health for her. RPG enthusiasts who order the game through Square Enix's Japan online store will get a download code for Noel's calamity blade, which quickly recharges the character's in-game ATB gauge. Square Enix has yet to reveal the price and release date of the DLC.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be out in North America on January 31, 2012, and in Japan on December 15 this year for the Xbox 360 and PS3. For more information, check out GameSpot's recent preview at TGS 2011.

Mmmmmm, my guess is that the DLC will be released latter on for both systems, there isn't any point in buying the same game over and over just to get all of the DLC. Anyway I cant wait for the game :) that is the most important part

what about europe and the rest of the world?

that SUCKS. i guess i will be waiting, as that suggests that it will be rather light on content. that's very disappointing!

@GamerNerdTalk those are just the teaser trailers for na that are bad lip synced and thats only the first ones cuz they were rushing. if you look at the redone versions of the trailers they fix the lip sync problems and rewrite the lines.

@twztid13 @Tak666 both are one disc this time. @nevryn i think they were talking about both the preorder exclusive stuff and the dlc that japan only currently. @Scrotous yeah so far the dlc is exclusive to japan with only the 2 preorder items (costume and omega battle) being available outside japan but only as preorder not as dlc anyone can buy.

Wow I might have to get the Japan version that's dubbed, the mouth syncing is horrible

@Tak666 FFXIII was 3 discs on 360 & 1 disc on ps3. I'm not sure about XIII-2.

i loved XIII, but since ME3 is march 6th, then before that Kingdoms of Amular:Reckoning is Feb.7th, it really depends on when the Witcher 2's release date is in my decision to preorder/get day one. with the sudden crash of price on FF XIII, i might be better off if i wait for the drop. so many games in such little time (and yes i consider myself a hardcore gamer with all systems). if not a single game released next year, i could play all of this years games i wish to play, all of next year, and not run out of games (and get them cheaper ;))!

FF13 was so lousy that I got rid of it like only 1/4th into the game

my guess is that it will sell very well in japan and europe, and that it will do only ok in the U.S.

Ah so now we have to pay more to fight Omega Weapon? Never needed before. That is, assuming that those pre-order bonuses crap will be available to get from PSN/Live.

@deershadow Blame the retailers themselves. They make offers to the game companies to get "exclusive" content. The best offers (be it promises to purchase X# of copies or advertising space or simple product placement etc.) get the best content. In some cases, it even involves veiled threats where a major provider will refuse to sell a specific game or relegate it to a bad position in the store (a certain VERY large retailer is well known for such strong arm tactics). It sucks, but is one of the preferred methods now. The game companies can refuse, but then they run the risk of alienating the retailers and ending up with poor sales solely because of retailer sabotage.

Ugh, I hate this retailer exclusive content crap. This is such a low thing to do.

I'm interested in the book, but I'd rather just catch the game on sale.

This kind sxxt pisses me off, they are essentially forcing your hand for collector's to buy the game three times, just to get all the various preorders; and its not even something that desirable. And I thought the new guy character was going to be the main character; lighting was bad enough, easily one of the worst protagonist in the series, but her little sister, really? Why dont you just make the rock in the background the MC, it would probably be a slightly more enjoyable game.

There's a little something called Versus XIII which you haven't finished yet, Square...

@Jebatin true, but Capcom and certain companies are so greedy and blinded by money to the point that they just want to sell as much as possible without paying any attention to the fans of the game, always trying to milk their games and ignore the fact that they can simply make money by making good games. Look at Dark Souls, even though i am a big FF fan, but i have to say that it is the best RPG ever made, look what'll you get for 60$ , a collector's edition with extra DLC and art-book. It is not just about the extras, the developers FromSoftware focus on making great games, (the right way to make money), not only making a rushed and unfinished one then support it later with DLC to make extra money.

paxis85
paxis85

@snaggleoooo maybe we should start some kind of commonwealth union of gamers or something lol. maybe that will get some attention outside the niche nations. it's scary to think that people really think there aren't any hardcore gamers outside japan, america and korea

I guess the amazon one would be the best as it has actual game content and not just costumes. However, they should really just include all of the preorder content at all retailers and not make us go to specific retailers and make us choose. Seriously this is the weirdest preorder idea I've seen.

as long as all the content is available to buy after release I don't particularly care

@meharu unfortunately they're all the same but hey it's business and it's their job is to make money. We're consumers and our job is to spend money. That's how the world works. But looks like this will be worth buying, don't know about the DLC though... We'll see

I already the Episode i novella so I'm not picking Best Buy. It's online and translated from Japanese and gives you a good background. Gotta go with Amazon on this one.

DrAmazinDood
DrAmazinDood

The only thing I'm disapointed with is the fact that there will be DLC right after the game's release...why? If the DLC has been decided on before the game's release, why not include it in the retail game? I miss the days when developers just had to make a good game without relying on additional content that can be added any time, gave them the obligation to make the game good or there would be no turning back

meharu

So Sqaure-Enix is becoming like Capcom? A money grabber company who only cares about making fortunes and ignoring the fans? SHAME :/

@Jebatin completely agree, if you don't like the game don't play it!! and stop filling the comments page with unproductive whining. I personally liked XIII and (like with X-2) I think that nothing bad comes out of experiencing with a new battle system (it's not like every FF game from here on will have it). I dislike the separate DLCs though.

Barighm
Barighm

How about a pre-order incentive that includes an apology from Square for ruining a beloved franchise complete with a returnable comment card that allows fans to suggest ways to improve the series? Now there's a useful pre-order bonus! ...nah, they don't care. They already got your money.

Can't believe it, six Final Fantasy games (Rhythm FF, FFvs13, FFType-0, FFXIII-2, FFXIV Online, and FFX remake) on the way and not a single new one sounds good except the remake. Rhythm Final Fantasy = sounds like a spin-off Final Fantasy Versus XIII = cool title but still sounds like a spin-off Final Fantasy Type-0 = sounds like spin-off Final Fantasy XIII-2 = Is a spin-off Final Fantasy XIV Online = sounds like a main FF title until they added the Online part which now sounds like a spin-off Final Fantasy X = Sounds like it'll be the only good main FF title we'll ever get this gen (which sadly it isn't since it's just a remake).

kablay

I'm tired of these battle systems where you just choose your settings and then watch the characters battle. I want to be able to control all characters and have it be necessary to dictate every precise action because it's just that strategical and diverse. This crap annoys me.

I doubt I will be preordering. I'll wait for the game to drop in price before buying in this time.

@Tripwolf I completely agree. I remember when it was a massive event when a new Final Fantasy was announced or released. Now the FF franchise is plagued with average spin-offs and sequals that no one wanted but bought anyway because it had Final Fantasy on the case. SE must have 5 or more FF titles in development at one time, unfortunately it seems like they put 5 times less effort in because of that.

If you don't like to preorder just wait till they all come out for DLC. I'm more interested in the game than alternate costumes and extra battles.

Thank you for spitting in Your fans face SquareEnix. I guess I'll just wait a year till the game goes down by 50% and will have all the dlc stuff like the Xbox classic version of Gears of War 2. Btw is the ps3 and xbox 360 version both on 1cd or does the xbox one have a few cds? Since i don't know if I should buy the ps3 one or xbox one.
