Square Enix has announced that the PC version of Final Fantasy XI will be shipping in October. Based on the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XI takes place in the world of Vana'diel, which is broken down into three different areas. Players can create a character from several different classes and venture into the land using chocobos, boats, and even airships. The Japanese version of the game, which was released in November 2002, currently has approximately 250,000 subscribers.

"We are thrilled to introduce Final Fantasy XI to North America and hope the game will expand online gaming to a broader audience," said Jun Iwasaki, president and CEO of Square Enix. "Final Fantasy XI will lure players into an action- and emotion-packed online gaming adventure in a personalized universe where they create their own destiny."

We'll have more on Final Fantasy XI soon.
