Following its release for iOS devices last summer, Final Fantasy VII is out now for Android phones and tablets, Square Enix announced today.

The mobile version is quite large, as it requires over 4 GB of free space to download, according to the game's Google Play description.

There is also a bug affecting the game right now that sounds pretty significant. "Depending on the terrain and timing of the action, the buggy, submarines, airships, and other modes of transportation may cease to move when the player embarks or disembarks," Square Enix explained.

The only fix for this is to restart the game from a file saved before the bug occurred. As such, Square Enix said it recommends saving frequently and/or using multiple save files.

"This bug occurs most often when players embark or disembark while extremely close to the terrain, as well as during time-sensitive activities for events," it said.

Square Enix didn't say if it's working on a more permanent solution.

Another thing to be aware of is Final Fantasy VII for Android does not save automatically when players are escaping from battle on the world map.

In terms of controls, Final Fantasy VII uses a "simple and comfortable" virtual controller that was purposefully designed so as to not obscure what's happening on-screen. You can choose between a virtual analog or d-pad options. Additionally, players can adjust the opacity of the on-screen controls from the game's configuration menu.

Also carried over from the iOS release is the ability to disable random encounters. Also, players can enter a "max stats" command, which is effectively a cheat that makes your character "all-powerful in the blink of an eye."

You need Android 4.3 or up to run Final Fantasy VII. The game costs $16.

Not interested in mobile? Square Enix is also remaking Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation 4 through an episodic model.
