Fight Night 3 demo now KO'ing 360s

[UPDATE] 486MB demo of EA's boxing game punches onto Xbox Live Marketplace; two trailers also available.

One of the perks of owning an Xbox 360 is the ability to take in games without leaving the living room. Xbox Live Arcade features downloadable coin-op classics, addictive newcomers, and basic "match the colored blocks" puzzle games.

The heavyweight downloads, however, are the demos of full-priced games, designed to give users a free preview of what each title has to offer. Though the market for downloadable Xbox 360 demos is new, publishers seem to be picking up on the potential it offers. Just before New Year's, Activision's Quake 4 and Sega's Condemned joined the ranks of free samples, marking the first Xbox Live demo for both publishers.

One publisher that has really taken a shining to Xbox 360 demos is Electronic Arts. Samplings of Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and FIFA 06 are all available gratis, leaving Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 as the only current EA Xbox 360 game sans demo.

[UPDATE] However, it looks like a different as-yet-unreleased EA game is beating Tiger to the punch (pun intended). The Xbox 360 demo for Fight Night Round 3 is now up and available for free on Xbox Live Marketplace. The game isn't due to hit store shelves until next month.

This may not come as a surprise to all. Earlier today, the front page of Xbox.com highlighted Fight Night. The game's trailer featured on Xbox.com shows some familiar footage of Bernard Hopkins beating the tar out of Roy Jones Jr., but it's the end of the trailer that really knocked out some gamers. Underneath a listing of some of the game's features is the surprising, albeit blurry, text reading "Visit Xbox 360 Marketplace to download your demo today!"

The demo allows gamers to play as Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones Jr. for a partial match. There are also two trailers for Fight Night Round 3, one at 480p and the other at 720p.

For more information on Fight Night Round 3, jump into the ring with GameSpot's recent preview, or go a few rounds with an hands-on of the demo.

I've been playing the demo and OH MY GOD what can I say. But If you don't have a 360 yet, THIS GAME will be the one to get when you do.

This game is truly awesome. The downloading demo feature is awesome because I've never played a Fight Night game before and now I'm waiting for it to come out so that I cant buy it.

The HDR lighting effects looked awesome in HL2 Lost Coast but the HDR in FNR3 look so freaking amazing. I have been playing the demo over and over.

I don't really like boxing games (not since Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Super Punch Out), but the demo was pretty fun.

I downloaded and played it this morning before work. It looks really good, but perhaps I'm not used to controlling it. I haven't played a boxing game on a console since the original Atari, hahaahahahaahaahah. It was fun, but I didn't like the control. It does offer several control setups though, so perhaps I need to take a gander at a different setup. The market place is definately a thumbs up. MS did a great job of integrating the online experience into this console.

Yeah you can download demos for FREE as in silver membership. I have stupid british broadband, with a 3gb cap for 1mb broadband, and i'm not risking downloading half a gig incase this months bandwidth goes down the drain! :P Anyway, you get a 1 month gold trial as soon as you sign up for xbox live so no worries there.

Can someone tell me if this is a free download over the free XBOX Live Silver membership, or if you have to have a paid Gold membership to get the demo? Just curious.

nemes1s3000: The download speed is as fast as your ISP provides it. Considering you are using broadband, I would imagine maybe around 4-10 minutes.

Awesome demo. heres hoping more previously playable games are demo'd. would be great to at least have a taste of whats to come. like, dead rising, saints row, Ghost recon, or even crackdown or whatever people want a demo of. but FN3, is awesome.

sandz_09

freakin awesome demo. now this is next gen. they need more demos to keep on rolling in. i mean, dead rising and saints row were among full auto and such before 360 came out. so heres hoping we get some more awesome demos.

Hm. I'm assuming that this demo is aimed squarely at Fight Night vets, because I'm not liking it at all so far. It looks good, but the animation between punches seems very stiff, and so far I'm yet to persuade my fighter to guard- the trigger assigned to 'sway' works fine, but the 'block' one seems to do nothing at all. The damage model also seems a little ropey- at one point I alternated a series of about eight left-right hooks to the opponent's head- who alreadly had a badly bruised eye- and achieved nothing at all. I'm prepared to accept that it's probably just me, though.

Nope all xbox360 demos over xbox live are 100% free. Same as the hi def game trailers, movie trailers, developer interviews, concerts and tons of other nice stuff :)

Demo is sweet! Graphics are as good as PS3 demo footage. Plays like FNR2, but better. I beat RJJ with BHop. The demo is four rounds.

Four full rounds of boxing action... but Roy Jones seems a bit like Glass Joe!

Sweet. Another game to check out now. Downloading the demo we saw for the PS3 at last year's E3 as we speak and will be able to play it within the hour. The 360 is so sweet. It's so damn convienent and practical, yet comes in a kick-ass powerhouse of a console. Seriously, I love the thing. :)

These downloadable demos are great. I was going to pass over Quake 4 because it had gotten some fair reviews, but after playing the demo, I've decided it looks like a very solid game. (It's no Halo, but so far neither is anything else!). I can already feel the pinch of the 20GB hard drive with these demos though - they are weighing in at 500MB-1GB each, and while the argument can be made that you can easily delete them, it sure would be nice if MS let us store them on an external USB drive. Hope that's coming soon...

they where talking about FNR3 being the first demo released before a game on MARKETPLACE you dumba**

"This would also mark the first time an Xbox 360 demo was released before the full version of the game." Wrong. Full Auto is out in OXM #3 and the full version is still no released

I wonder how this demo will stack up to the ps3 version. This may be the first title to contrast the two systems, espec. if a playable demo for ps3 comes out at e3...
