FIFA 08 kicks off across platforms

This year's version of the popular football game will be coming to a multitude of formats--and the covers will feature Ronaldinho.

It may not come as a great surprise after FIFA 07 was named the best-selling title of 2006 that FIFA 08 has been confirmed by EA Sports. The latest game in the series will be coming worldwide this autumn to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, and mobile phones.

Ronaldinho , cover boy!

Barcelona midfielder Ronaldinho will feature on the front of FIFA boxes for the third time in a row, alongside various other players across Europe. Miroslav Klose of Werder Bremen will also be on packaging in Germany, Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid in Spain, Andreas Ivanschitz of Panathinaikos FC in Austria, and Tranquillo Barnetta of Bayer Leverkusen in Switzerland. Florent Malouda of Olympique Lyonnais and Frank Ribery of Olympique Marseille will appear alongside Ronaldinho on the cover of the game in France. His cover mates for the UK and US will be announced next month.

The listed stars will also be motion captured for the game, which will be developed by EA Canada in Vancouver.

I'm really looking forward to FIFA 08, I that the game will be really good. We all have seen the screenshots from the game and it looks good. I also have watched some gameplay videos where they introduce some new features when you're playing and it looks good. About the issue whether Ronaldinho should be on the cover, it's not a big issue but i agree with most of the users here at GameSpot that it would be nice to see a new face. In the old days there was always a new player at the front. I personally would like to see Paul Scholes on the cover again (he was in 2001 ps2 edition), Scholes is a hero

i think they should make a retro fifa game featuring the 60's 70's 80's and 90's , when real football was made and maradona , pele and beckenbauer should be on the covers

I'd say FIFA has a good chance of challenging PES this time round. Last year's Konami offering was lazy, particularly with regards to the 360 version. FIFA on the other hand has been making a lot of progress and I think PES should start thinking about a few improvements of its own to stay ahead.

I will get one for the Wii. plat fifa 08 with the wiimote, " Wow". Try something different with fifa. Peter Crouch should be on the cover.

how would you play it on wii? I think it has enough buttons to leave motion sensing out for this time.

Hasn't the FIFA franchise kinda reclaimed the crown from PES in the recent years? The Konami franchise seems the same, year after year. Last Fifa I played was preety enjoyable. :D

Why not just Release FIFA and have yearly updates from Xbox/PS3 store for new players, clubs and shirts - better than a series of games (with the only difference being the box art).

Oh bugger, no XBox version :( Guess Ill HAVE to upgrade to a 360 now, lol. As for Ronaldiniho, pfh, over-rated player. He Brazillian. so what. He plays for Barcelona. So what. Come to England and prove yourself in the best league in the world mate ;) Same goes for all the other European players everyone harps on about.

I think I'll see if they improve it on the PS3, and the same for PES7 (avoid last year's PES6 360 dabble!).

C. Ronaldo was footballer of the year so i think he should be on the cover, but Ronaldinho is still amazing so hes a good choice too imo

I think players like C.Ronaldo, Drogba or Kaka should go on the cover. The have all had respectively great seasons. In terms of gameplay I think WE/PES make the benchmark for football games.

Fifa was great on current gen consoles. But to be honest, 360 fifa titles have been pretty poor. Fifa 06 World to the World Cup, 2006 Fifa World Cup, Fifa 07 and UEFA Champions League 2007 lacked in so much. Teams were more limited, No skills in the latest 2, gameplay was way too clunky for me, really stupid and unnecessary fouls, cutscenes (like before the match in the tunnel or when someone was going to take a free kick, etc.) were like watching a freakshow! One referee I saw looked like Frankensteins brother! But now that the next generation consoles have become the new current-gen, im sure EA will make the most of the hardware they have, especially the Xbox 360 and PS3. We want a bigger variety of leagues, responcive movement, and nice graphics (not too much, we are not too bothered about that) its the fact that EA have the licence that the public love. Im really looking forward to the first impressions and screenshots. EA, DONT LET US DOWN!!! :D
