Fez sales hit 100,000

Polytron's multidimensional platformer reaches Xbox Live sales milestone in six weeks; patch currently in certification.

Phil Fish and Polytron's long-awaited and award-winning multidimensional platformer Fez has recorded sales of 100,000 on Xbox Live since its debut on April 13, according to an update on the game's website.

Launching on Friday the 13th didn't spook gamers away from Fez.

On top of an official sales figure for Fez coming to light, Polytron's official Twitter account revealed that a patch for the downloadable game is currently in certification and will be released soon.

Fez had a long and storied development. Initially announced in 2009 with a projection to be released the following year, the game was later pushed to 2012. In February, Fez won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize award at the 2012 Independent Games Festival. Fish was also one of the developers featured in the award-winning Indie Game: The Movie documentary.

Fez is a 2D platformer built entirely using Microsoft's XNA tools in an 8-bit pixel art style. The game also adds a third dimension and lets players rotate the gameworld around the protagonist, Gomez. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's review.

100,000 is increddible for an xbox live arcade game, especially for six weeks. I don't know exactly how much the take is for Microsoft, but for Indie games they take 30% of all sales with a sales minimum for a payout. I'd have to imagine the arcade games are nearly the same payment structure. If that's true, and this guy developed the game by himself, he just made over 700,000 dollars in a month and a half ... even if it took five years to develop that averages out to alot more money than I, or anybody else commenting here makes. I haven't even heard of this game until now ... and I think I'll download the trial.

That's pretty low. I expected far more by now. That's what he gets for not releasing it for Windows.

I beat it without guides. But, I still have many puzzles not solved though. Fez is an amazing game.

Thought the trial sucked so didn't buy it.  A decision made easier on discovery the guy that made it is a massive toolbox.

I really want to try this game, and I know for a fact that if/when this game arrives on PC, it will be a hit.

I don't like it, I played 3 hours of it and just got bored, no lives or any punishment for failure, so the platforming parts feel like they're just their to add play time, i felt like even 3 hours into it the puzzles where not any more difficult or challenging as well

I own it.  It's a good game, but while exploring is certainly fun, it feels like you lack much purpose while playing it.  There just isn't enough pushing you forward.

@maximumbarmage The guy's a genius. And none of his statements were untrue, even if it was hard for some people to hear.

@ERoBB He generalized the productions of an entire country, he was far from being true in his statements.

@ERoBB How does a 2d platfomer make him a genus? He is borrowing ideas from  Japanese games. That's what we call a hypocrite. The shifting to 3rd has been done before too. Yes Japanese games are getting stale. But where are these idiots when Tekken, Street Fighter, Dark Souls, Bayonetta, Demon Souls came out. When Demon souls came out that game alone made everything in the western market look like crap. (my opinion) He said "Sorry japanese dude your games suck". He didn't even explained it. Inafune at least summarize why he thinks the market is dropping.
