Fez going multiplatform

Polytron porting downloadable game to "other platforms" in 2013; creator Phil Fish teases the opening of a United States branch.

Fez will not be an Xbox 360-exclusive forever. Creator Phil Fish announced in a blog post that the puzzle platform game will be ported to "other platforms" in 2013.

"Yes, I’ve heard you, dozens of people emailing me everyday [sic] telling me how much of an idiot I am for not porting Fez to everything," Fish wrote.

Fish also teased "exciting plans" for the game's soundtrack, as well as "something about a United States branch." The developer explained in his blog entry that he vacated his former workspace in Montreal, Canada, at the end of the year.

Fez, which has sold more than 100,000 units, is a 2D platformer built entirely using Microsoft's XNA tools in an 8-bit pixel art style. The game also adds a third dimension and lets players rotate the gameworld around the protagonist, Gomez. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's review.

As a PS3 gamer, this makes me very happy. I just recently watched Indie Game: The Movie and it seemed like I was going to miss out on this gem. I'm glad that I'll be able to play this soon!

So does this mean it'll finally be released in a Humble Indie Bundle? : D

100,000 sales is bad ...... welcome to whatever other platform

Bout fuckin time. I shouldnt have to buy a shitbox just for the Arcade catalouge (because thats the only good thing the platform has to offer). At least other indie devs have had the sense to release their art on PC and other platforms. And yes i know this developer has had issues, ive seen the indie game documentary.

right stop moaning, if you like the game, play it, love it and buy it. Support the new upcoming creativity and the company or person will make more, giving YOU the gamer a wider and more enjoyable experience, the loop continues......

Surprised to see any info on this game on GS, I thought they chose to pretend that this game never existed.

It'd be nice to finally play this game, more of a PC/Nintendo person.

I can't wait to see it running for the PC ^_^

Timed Exclusivity is ending, time to rake in the dough.

Porting to everything would be cool. A Ps3 and PC version would satisfy those who never got a chance to play on 360, and a Wii U or 3DS version could showcase some more creative takes on the game, like stereoscopic 3D to fit the game's style, and Gamepad integration for that second screen experience. A Vita version would also be a good alternative to playing it on the go.

I've been looking to try this game out, but since I own everything but a 360, I never got the chance. xP

I bought it and played a good amount when it came out, but I could see buying it on PC if the game runs better and is a good price.

"Fez is a console game, not a PC game. It’s made to be played with a controller, on a couch, on a Saturday morning. To me, that matters; that’s part of the medium. I get so many comments shouting at me that I’m an idiot for not making a PC version. ‘You’d make so much more money! Can’t you see? Meatboy sold more on Steam!’ Good for them. But this matters more to me than sales or revenue. It’s a console game on a console. End of story.”

How about Mr. Fish makes the game actually work properly first before porting? This kind of annoys me! All he's after is the money...god damn...

Fantastic news, I'd love to have a retail copy with artwork but that's probably a step too far.

After watching Indie Game: The Movie, this is probably the only dev I related with and felt something for, definitely want to support him. Will buy for the PS3.

I'll buy it for PS3. Frankly, the 360 doesn't deserve this game with how poorly they handled it.

it was about time! can't wait for it to be on the PS3 or maybe on Steam!??¿

I think he will find that his greatest folly was not releasing his game on PC to begin with. Easy, free updating, and a gigantic userbase. Watch, another article will show up on Gamespot with Phil Fish making some comment about regretting starting with 360 and being surprised with the number of PC sales, and there's a good chance it'll make more sales on PC than it ever did on 360.

It'll certainly sell more in the first week on PC than it did on 360, seeing as how everybody has heard about this game by now and people like myself have been waiting for their chance to play it.

Looking forward to reducing these 8 bit games down to some gorgeous 4 bit graphics.

they need a development team not just one person.  it would take another console generation for each port to come out if done by one person.

@Prats1993 I actually think the 360 is the best console this generation around but I have to agree with you I hate having to buy a console just to play one game.

@Thanatos2k you shouldn't isolate your market and later on reputation. they go hand in hand. let the mass's have it including pc sor steam users. its perfect for steam and they have a lot of followers.

@sambora113 Or he is after getting more people to play his game as many people have been asking for the game on other platforms.

@aquaglow not a big enough corp (yet) so cost is probably a factor at present

@Pie_FOREVER really? out of all the devs i felt he was the biggest moron. the others were intelligent and had plans and kept deadlines. this jackass had no plan, no goals, no steps, he was sailing blind the whole way. it's a wonder the game even got made and it still had problems. if MS hadn't taken pity and forgiven him for all the missed deadlines, he'd probably have committed suicide like he said.

@itchyflop Yeah and a terrible one it is! Who gives 8.0 to the one of the best games in recent years?! Not to mention total dissapearence from GOTY nominations and personal favs from staff! This is disgrace from any serious gaming website!

aquaglow
aquaglow

@aniforprez  The other people interviewed had either worked in the game industry, or made games before. So it's not surprising that Phil Fish was a bit more naive with his approach initially.

@itchyflop  Sensibility is a great thing when used correctly. The guy was obviously making a joke, stop crying.

aniforprez

@aquaglow he's not completely alone there. i mean, i'm not even a game developer. i'm simply a software developer and i could have given him better advice. he had that stupid mentality of "me vs the world" and kept himself isolated to make the game. i understand his first business partner and he had a falling out too. if he hadn't jumped head-first into something this ambitious, he wouldn't have been suffering for 4+ years trying to deliver.
