Fear Effect: Inferno on hold

Eidos confirms that the development of its third Fear Effect adventure game is currently on hold.

We got to see a whole lot of great games at E3 last week, but one that was conspicuously absent was Eidos' Fear Effect: Inferno. The third game in the popular Fear Effect series was first sighted at E3 2002 when Eidos showed a trailer for the game, but, much to the disappointment of fans, nothing has been seen or heard of the game since. We spoke with an Eidos representative earlier today to get an update on the game's current status and were told simply that the game is "on hold at the current time."

That's not particularly good news for fans of the Fear Effect series, but we'll bring you more information on Fear Effect: Inferno as soon as it becomes available.

I'd love to see another FE game, but these artsy, niche cult fave games like this and Killer 7 don't have enough of a strong following. They need sales to continue, and Fear Effect apparently didn't sell enough to warrant a third game. Too bad, because the trailers for Inferno looked great. I can only imagine how good this game could've been had they ditched the pre-rendered backgrounds and gone full 3-d with todays hardware.

I think they should just make it and put it on PS3, XBOX 360, or the Nintendo Wii
