The cast of Fast & Furious 8 keeps getting more and more impressive. Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron have already joined regular stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, and it has now been revealed that Helen Mirren is also set to appear.

The Oscar-winning actress confirmed the news in an interview with Elle. "I want to be making film and theater, but film is particularly relevant," she said. "I like it to be serious. Of course, having said that I'm about to do Fast & Furious 8. But that's for the fun of it. So maybe that's what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies."

Mirren went on to explain that she joined the film on one condition. "I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive, if I do drive in it.' But we'll see. We'll see how it transpires.

"I like very serious films, I love foreign films, and I love big, fun movies--as long as they're well made and they've got good scripts. That's the most important thing."

The film is currently in production, directed by Straight Outta Compton's F. Gary Gray, and hits theaters on April 14, 2017.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that there would be at least two more films in the blockbuster action franchise, with parts 9 and 10 due in 2019 and 2021. Producer and star Diesel has also hinted that additional spinoff movies could be made, focusing on some of the individual characters from the series.
