Far Cry 4 story details emerge

The name and motivation of the main character in Kyrat has been revealed.

Following the unexpected reveal of Far Cry 4 during an investors briefing last week, the first details on the game's story have been leaked by Ubisoft's online store.

A preorder page for the game recently went live on the Uplay store, accompanied by the image above and a short description of what the story is about. Ubisoft apparently didn't intend for this information to go public yet, as the page has since been amended to remove it. Luckily, a Reddit user noticed before this could happen, and a cached version of the page preserves the original text, which is as follows:

"Hidden in the majestic Himalayas lies Kyrat, a country steeped in tradition and violence. You are Ajay Ghale. Traveling to Kyrat to fulfill your mother’s dying wish, you find yourself caught up in a civil war to overthrow the oppressive regime of dictator Pagan Min.

"Explore and navigate this vast open world, where danger and unpredictability lurk around every corner. Here, every decision counts, and every second is a story. Welcome to Kyrat."

Prior to this, all we knew about the game's story was that it takes place in a location called Kyrat that is ruled by a "despotic self-appointed king"--possibly the blonde, purple-suit-wearing guy on the game's cover.

Little else is known about Far Cry 4 at this point, save for the fact that it will have a more significant multiplayer component than Far Cry 3. More details are expected during Ubisoft's E3 press conference, which is scheduled to take place on Monday, June 9, at 3 p.m. Pacific.

Far Cry 4 is set to be released on November 18 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.

god i hope the new "hero" is less whinny than the last one

example:

you kill hundreds of pirates, then comes the cut scene...

hero: " I'm not a sissy I'm a real man waaaa waaaaaaaa"

Everytime I look at this douchie villain I think about the guy version of Miley C.

cant believe this game is going to be available in november how do devs push these games out so fast now?

Forcecaster

@grin89  They started working on it right after the release of FC3. This will give them approximately 2 years. That time with such a huge manpower from all the Ubisoft studios it's nothing special.

@Forcecaster @grin89 Plus it's the same formula, looks like the same engine, lot's of the same assets, just pushing them with bettertextures and improved lighting. Once you have the groundwork layed it's not all hard. I know this from web dev.

Also stop making games for LAST GEN!!! Its holding us pc AND next gen gamers back!!!

Forcecaster
Forcecaster

@nameaprice  Probably this E3 was the last time we had so many cross-gen titles. Until next Jun many gamers will already will jump ship as there will be a whole lot more titles available to current-gen systems, so publishers will have no reason to develop for last-gen too. So yeah, Far Cry 5 on PC, PS4, XBO and perhaps something happens with Nintendo...

@Forcecaster @nameaprice  Last gen most casual gamers, as in the people who make up like 90 percent of the gaming community, didn't get a ps3 or 360 until like 08 or 09.

@tableofjapan  It's not about multiplayer, it's drop-in/drop-out coop, it's totally different. It's totally optional. And if you hate so much hearing the same voice over and over again you must really hate the voice of Nolan North I guess.

I mean a purple suit with bleach blonde hair with the dumbest haircut I have ever seen. Not to judge a book by its cover but it's kind of hard not to. Plus from the videos Ive watched his or her whatever it is personality is awful.  Who came up with this awful character? they should be fired.   the only way Id get the game is if I get to kill that dbag at some point in the game.  they should have made him look meaner than that. That dude looks like he would get his ass kicked very easily.

just not excited for this as I thought I would be. I think outside or fc3  the games don't do the first far cry justice.  The guy in the pink suit looks like the ultimate d-bag. I think that's the worst character I have ever seen other than Jar Jar.

Wow sounds like a good story.

What was the heroes name in FC3? I seem to only remember Vaas and his sis, she was hot as hell.

Even though I enjoy ubisoft open world games ( except AC ), they are still missing that special something that makes Rockstar games son damn cool, well that's an opinion, I'm sure everyone is thrilled and happy with watch dogs and looking forward to Unity.

yeah right. thanks for this article about the details ubisoft didn't want to make public yet. they tried to hide it so badly that they payed gamespot to make a promoted article about it.

After the breathless, effete, silver-spooned Millennial in the last game, there is nowhere to go but up for the next MC.

I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted to kill my own character just as much as the bad guys.

Excited for this but I hope the protagonist isn't another lame wimpy pothead that turns into Rambo five minutes in like in FC3.

DinoBuster
DinoBuster

@MAD_AI  I always felt that the spirit of Farcry was about a single person against insurmountable odds, so the idea of having such an unlikely of character stuck in a situation where he was forced to adapt was pretty effective. in my opinion. By the end of the game, his trials and tribulations completely changed him.

@DinoBuster @MAD_AI

But such a thing would need to take months if not years for a character like Jason to become an effective jungle fighter, not five minutes. I understand suspension of disbelief for the sake of gameplay, they could've made FC3 span a year or 2 not a few days. At least in FC1 your protagonist had a credible military background, in FC2 you could choose a military background. The game was great nonetheless I just wasn't too keen on the main character.

Yeah dude totally, I still enjoyed FC3 a lot though.

seems interesting but will probably be another FC3 repetitive fest

@vadagar1 oh well. FC3 was amazing. Give me a new story and location and I;m happy. The formula works so well. Don't reinvent the wheel.

I thought they did a pretty good job of keeping things varied in FC3. I'm really excited for this one. It can only get better!

Given Ubi Soft's track record, this game will probably be delayed to 2015.

No way dude, ubisoft is all about the dough, so they need this one to compete against battlefield and COD, then we'll be seeing far cry every year with minor changes.

ninboxstation

imo the few pics of the new main villain are already like indicating, that he has the potential to even overthrough the last (epical) villain in FC3...

just hope they had enough time to make FC4 as a whole epical..  (but since it's probably not using an entire new engine, it doen't need soo much time yet..., while FC5 will very likely need a completly new engine..)

and hope the "snow" areas are more epical than in like AC3..  (from which I was expecting more in terms of "roaming thru the winter landscapes"....)

@lunarsword  Not sure if you already know this but reports have it that the Assassin's Creed 3 director is taking the role of creative director in this game!

Far Cry 2 was not my cup of tea. Hope this game doesn't turn out to be like that. My excitement meter is down by two notches to 6 after hearing about the civil war. Also don't make the character sick with frostbite or hypothermia like in FC 2...lol

@ank000  have you played FC3? If not, try it out. It's an awesome game!

I hope they have another really retarded end battle with quick time events so I feel like I wasted days of my life playing for nothing.

"Caught in a Civil War". Oh no were not going with that one again are we? Dont even remind me of Far Cry 2. PLEASE

I doubt that the protagonist would be an honorable half-breed who is fighting against a clandestine group of men with dastardly means of achieving an otherwise noble vision of the future.
