No Caption Provided Yesterday, Sony broke new ground with its announcement that Mass Effect 2--which runs on the Mass Effect 3 engine--would arrive on the PlayStation Network on January 18, the same day it hits shelves at brick-and-mortar retailers. While BioWare's sci-fi role-playing game will be the focus of next week's update, this week another RPG led all releases on the download space.

Faery: Legends of Avalon ($15) spearheaded the PSN lineup this week. From publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Spiders, the fantasy role-playing game was released on the Xbox Live Arcade in November to a poor critical reception. The title lets gamers choose to play as either an elf or a fairy and tasks them with saving the world from "inevitable disappearance." Players will encounter numerous foes along their journey and will also team up with characters offering their own unique skills in the effort to save the planet.

Also out on the PSN now is Prinny 2: Dawn of Operation Panties, Dood! ($15). A spin-off of Nippon Ichi Software's Disgaea franchise, Prinny 2 is an action platformer that the developer billed as the most "challenging side-scrolling action game ever." In the game, players are given a reserve of 1,000 petite penguins and the order to retrieve the demonic Etna's lost panties.

A new week also means new songs for diehard rhythm gamers. Rock Band 3 welcomes a six-pack of Linkin Park tunes from the nu-metal band's career, while Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock added a compilation of alt-rock selections from bands like Hawthorne Heights, A Day to Remember, HIM, Nine Inch Nails, The Used, and The Damned Things.

A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, discounts, and add-on content, is available on the PlayStation Blog.
