Fable Legends is an Unreal Engine 4 powered co-op RPG for Xbox One

New online-focused Fable will also include SmartGlass features.

Microsoft and Lionhead Studios have unveiled Fable Legends for the Xbox One.

The game will take place in an "online world" and feature integration with SmartGlass. Fable Legends is a four-player co-op adventure, with players able to tackle the game solo with three A.I. companions if they choose. Four characters have been shown so far, including a mage who freezes enemies in place and an archer, though Lionhead promises that many more heroes will be in the final game.

Additionally, a fifth player can take the role of a villain, acting as a dungeon master who can set traps, place monsters, trigger ambushes, and target which hero to attack. The villain views Fable Legends from a top-down perspective and can play the game from a SmartGlass tablet, Lionhead adds.

Between missions--which are currently designed to take around 30 minutes to finish, says Lionhead--players will return to the town of Brightlodge, which serves as the game's main hub. Fable Legends is set 400 years before the original Fable, during the series' Age of Heroes.

No release date was mentioned, but game director David Eckelberry says Fable Legends is being made with Unreal Engine 4 and will take "a great deal of time to build."

Microsoft executives Phil Harrison and Phil Spencer unveiled the game as part of an Xbox Showcase at Gamescom 2013.

A CGI trailer for the game was unveiled, showing the various heroes of Albion fighting monsters.

Whatever happened to system co-op? I'd much rather play with people that I can sit next to and laugh about stuff than via the internet. Friends do like to actually be in the same room sometimes and play.

Umm... I'm a big xbox fan, gonna buy the x1 day 1, it has some great launch games...

Never liked PS for multiple reasons, including those fcked up controllers, BUT.... the only thing I hate about xbox right now is this fcking... FABLE SH1T AGAIIN???? c'mon!!!! .....

I was expecting a NEW IP...(NEW IP) not the same thing all over again....  ... Fable 1 : great, fable 2: to me it sucked , played only like 1 hour, fable 3: was a disgrace, and that last... shitty fable: the journey was a disrespectful

don't really understand how they can keep this series going, there must still be enough people buying them, but who?

Fable again? Not excited at all, Fable 1 was GREAT, Fable 2 was "meh..ok", Fable 3 was "WTF is this crap". They really need to find some new IP, Fable is already wasted.

Still miss Molyneux I know he sometimes made cheese sound like gold but that's just it, it's not as exciting without him lol.

Every time I go into a car dealership I wish the salesman was Peter because even if I went home having been sold a pile of junk at least I would leave with a smile lol.

If not single player I have zero interest even tho I enjoyed all the Fable games. Too many kids ruin mmo experiances.

I'd love to see if they'll be able to use Unreal 4 to make the ingame graphics look like the CGI trailer.

Man how many times can a franchise screw people over. I remember all the promises with the past games and how they were never followed through so what will make this game any different. Fable 3 to me was a huge disappointment and basically the nail in the coffin for me as far as this franchise goes.

I haven't seen it in action yet, but the description in the article make it sound more like Diablo than Fable.

EDIT: Gameplay-wise, not graphically.

Is it coming to PC? More importantly, is the probably-superior Fable II coming to PC?

Coming to PC? Would be nice if it did.

I don't know about this. Sounds like it will have some interesting features, but I'm not hyped.

Wait, so this ISN'T a full featured fable game?

I think most people that wanted to be a villain were expecting you know....to have a full game expeirence, not this top-down commander view "tower defense" style of gameplay.

I like the idea - let us see how it turns out.

@udubdawgz @VenkmanPHD  I thoroughly enjoyed Fable 3. I sum it up as a really good experience. It has charming visuals and really nice audio, what with the fantasy style music and top-notch British voice acting. It's also interesting to see your weapons develop throughout the game. The main problem with it is that people need to accept it for what it is as opposed to what their expectations for it were.
