The card gaming is shutting down for good on March 4.

Fable Fortune, the card-battling spin-off of Lionhead's beloved fantasy RPG series, is shutting down on March 4. As a result, the game's in-game store is now deactivated.

Originally released back in 2018 after a few months in Microsoft's Game Preview program, Fable Fortune almost never saw the light of day. With Hearthstone's popularity soaring, a small team within Lionhead began work on the collectable card game as a Fable-themed alternative. When Lionhead shut down in 2016, however, Fable Fortune was still unannounced. But Microsoft gave its blessing to a group of former Lionhead developers to continue with the project as part of a new team called Flaming Fowl Studios.

The game launched as a free-to-play title for Xbox One and PC in 2018, but is now shutting down for good just over two years after arriving in early access. A new open-world Fable game is reportedly in development at Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, so at least Fable Fortune won't be the last we see of the series.
