Fable Anniversary debuts third in the UK charts

Bested by FIFA 14 and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Fable Anniversary, Microsoft and Lionhead's Xbox 360 remake of 2004's original Fable, has debuted at third place in the UK charts.

The game was bested in the charts by FIFA 14, which reclaims the number one slot, and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Last week's number one, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, slips to fourth place.

The rest of the top ten was made up of all the usual suspects: Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Grand Theft Auto V, Battlefield 4, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

"Fable Anniversary sings a fine rendition of the original's victories," wrote Kevin VanOrd in GameSpot's Fable Anniversary review. "Your interactions with the populace aren't limited to the kind involving a bow or a sword."

Hah, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition still sells. It's almost like GTA IV in that respect, but has a way to go before it can properly claim that.

I'm playing it right now and I'm having a lot of fun. Fans of Fable 2 (and 3) should really give this a go. It's cheaper than most new xbox games too, and they've done a good job remaking everything.

Only complaint I have is that you can't control friendly fire and may end up getting a bunch of evil points by hitting friendly npcs with spells while trying to protect them.

MS should port this to PC too I mean remember when MS were saying Games For PC was on the agenda with XBOX 360 and that didn't turn out to well as GFWL is not dead

Never got to play it when it first came out. Loving it so far.

I bet this game sells more than the new Fable. If that's the case, I hope it teaches Lionhead a lesson.

Kingdoms of Amalur is 100 hours of what Fable could have been.

Petey needs to take his hand holding, fart simulator, and go home.

Performance wise the game is a bit of a mess but it's simply an incredible RPG.

It may lack in certain aspects but the world, lore, the characters and the humour are still incredible.

ridiculous, fable is by far one of the most lackluster rpg's I have played. Not a bad game for the time when it was made, but nowadays it is dated garbage. I guess the majority of the world now are simple minded and go for the more simpler games developed by less talented developers. Just like people love simple music more than talented music. Fable 3 was absolutely atrocious, I would rather play fable 1 than ever play that game again and that is saying a lot.

I suppose mainly cosmetic remakes can still make money. :|

@Ferg1213 I think MS is the one who needs a lesson, Fable III wasn't perfect sure but at least they tried to do something new even if it didn't quite pan out.

@khuzko It was okay for it's time, but it didn't age well;  I suggest you go play Fable 2.

@krystyla  compare it to the witcher or elder scrolls and you will see just how lackluster fable games really are.

@Gelugon_baat For RPG's, there are much more things than the visual aspect that makes me interested to play it, but it works quite well for shooters. I've got Serious Sam First and Second Encounter and also Serious Sam HD First and Second Encounter and I like the HD remakes they made, even though the old game doesn't look bad.

@Gelugon_baat  ffx hd remaster is probably shorter gaming hours than fable anniversary, but will still be worth more money than fable anniversary due to how repetitive the fable games are. the main story itself requires loads of fetch side quests in order to progress, at least in ffx it was just a linear rpg whereas fable was a linear path rpg with forks in the road and backtracking all the time. what I would really love to see fable do is an open world game with the same atmosphere, dialogue (voice acting), similar story arc, and 3rd person combat more like the witcher. then maybe fable will grab my attention.

@kujel @Ferg1213 It didn't pan out? Then it deserves any criticism it gets. It's not the thought that counts or what you intended to do, but what actually came out of it.

@Aaronp2k I wouldn't describe Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Skyrim as anything amazing.

@Aaronp2k @krystyla  It's a bit unfair to compare Fable to those games, as it's not trying to be a complex game. The whole concept was to have a fun, light and breezy RPG that's easy to get into.

Aaronp2k
Aaronp2k

@krystyla @Aaronp2k  no. I would rather play fable 1 than fable 3, even the original fable was better lol. fable has never been a very good franchise though, its just alright. doesn't deserve to be 3 in the charts.

krystyla
krystyla

@Aaronp2k there are a lot of quests w/ multiple and ridiculous ways to solve it, for instance to get the deed of the bordello you can either make the owner drunk or dress up as a woman and sleep w/ him.

The main story is more of a leitmotif to guide the player to new areas

@khuzko @SirSlimyScrotumThe remake plays almost the same as Fable 2, so you could start with fable anniversary.

There might not be a next gen Fable that uses the same formula as the first three games, so I suggest playing those first.

@Aaronp2k You must have a tough life if you get so upset anytime something that doesn't deserve it gets in a chart like this one. Capitalism has never been about deserving anything.

Aaronp2k

@krystyla  skyrim has the same though, and much better game. the point is, why play fable when you can play something much better (and larger).
