Fable Anniversary arrives Feb. 4 with 1080p HD graphics, bonus content

Microsoft confirms launch date for upcoming remastered version of original Fable game, reveals various launch-day digital bonuses.

Microsoft and Lionhead Studios today announced that Fable Anniversary will launch for Xbox 360 on February 4, 2014 in the United States for $40. The game will be available in Asia on February 6 and in Europe on February 7. Fable Anniversary was originally pegged to launch this year, but was delayed in September for extra polishing.

The game is not coming to PC or Xbox One.

Fable Anniversary is described as the "definitive" version of the 2004 role-playing game. It features 1080p high-definition graphics, remastered audio, a new interface, achievements, SmartGlass integration, and The Lost Chapters content.

In addition, Fable Anniversary features a new save system. In the original game, players had a World Save for when they were not on a quest and a Hero Save for when they were. This meant that players were not able to save their progress during many of the game's quests.

All of this has been changed in favor of a checkpoint-based system system, where the game will automatically save your progress. What's more, players can create a manual save at any point if they wish.

Lionhead Studios also announced today that launch copies of Fable Anniversary will come with the Launch Day Weapons & Outfits Pack, featuring the digital content listed below. Players will also receive a special 10th Anniversary Lion's Head Avatar Helmet.

  • Scythe’s Outfit
  • A Black Graduate Outfit
  • A Red Prophet Outfit
  • A Blue Guard Outfit
  • A Red Guard Outfit
  • A Lute Weapon
  • A Will User’s Sceptre Weapon

Fable is not the first original Xbox game that Microsoft has updated for the Xbox 360. Microsoft launched Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary in 2011. In that game, players could press one button at any moment to toggle between the graphics of old and new. This feature is not supported in Fable Anniversary.

Lionhead Studios is also working on Fable Legends for Xbox One.

Why does the title say 1080p? I thought the 360 and PS3 weren't capable of that, even though the systems seem to support it, at least the PS3 does.

The only one I haven't played, and the best, according to some.

I canceled my preorder and bought something else. Back to square one...

the original fable, where everything promised by peter molyneux failed to be delivered. plus the combat is clunky too

Can't wait for this. It will come at a good time too.

Definetly excited for this, it'll help hold me over until the developers finally go back to basic Fable formula.

Just like Nintendo did for WW-HD.  Jolly!

Already have Fable TLC on Steam... no need to spend $40 for a console version just for better graphics. Perhaps once the price comes down or they decide to port it over. But until then, I certainly have enough other games to play or spend my money on.

"a checkpoint-based system system" Oh, I simply love my system systems. Perhaps even more than I love my commenting commenting.

So the 360 is running games at 1080p but the Xbone cannot?

I still have the original Fable lost chapters so I'll give this a miss. If they had added some new content I'd have bought it but for shiny new graphics, it isn't worth it.

Oh lawd, exclusive DLC already abundant. Just google "Fable 3 DLC wiki" to see how crazy exclusive they try to make DLC. its ridiculous for Fable 3, and I hope they don't do the same stuff for Fable Anniversary.

dear lord thank you! I heard about this months ago and there had been no news. I began to worry that it was cancelled or something to make Fable Legends. This will be a day one purchase. I beat this game 15+ times. I played ultra good, ultra evil and everything in between.

Please let the sales be so horrible that they have to release it on PC.

I did not see anything about a remastered physical manual, just digital content of zero value in 20 years when the 360 units no longer function.

I know it won't happen, but if any game deserves this treatment, it's Phantom Dust. If only to get people to bother playing it this time and know it was arguably the best Xbox 1 game.

The only fix that Fable needs is all the small zones and load times between each one.

Apart from that it was a perfectly serviceable adventure title.

Loved this game. I'm pretty stoked. 2&3 were just bad. I couldn't bring myself to play them much. I feel like the Witcher series evolved into what Fable could have been.

bu bu bu but 1080p doesn't matter lolololol doesn't matter when you don't have it/can't have it but when its given=omfg its the best. At least. At this point a 360 has more 1080p titles than X1 that is supposed to be 'next gen'

Rather they release a proper sequel to Fable 1 that isn't horribly mediocre. Tinkering and nursing this one isn't going to make people forget 2 and 3.

Its sad that fable 1 is the still the best one the series could have really been something great but of course 2 and 3 killed that real fast. Despite that though if you havent played this its def worth picking up.

Considering all three games(totaled) could be purchased for under 20 bucks, I dont see the purpose of buying this. If they had exclusive missions or something, I would consider it, but I cant see wanting to run through the Fable games all over again

@sakaixx It's still my favorite in the series. The ones that came after were way too easy.

@unconquered2222 This surprises you? They updated the game. It cost them money. So obviously they are going to be looking for a profit. $40 isn't bad.

@Vambran it's an original Xbox game remake, meant for the 360. Did you really expect that they'd make this for the Brand new, next gen system?

Shantmaster_K
Shantmaster_K

@tomservo51 Both systems have games that are and are not in 1080p. Developers need time to get used to the consoles. Very soon all games will, hopefully, be 1080p. So no need for useless trolling.

@HOLYSHMUCK I seriously doubt they are planning to release any new dlc content for this its just a facelift for an older game and thats it.

@maniacalpoet One of my all time favorites.. A real gem.  But will probably feel quite dated now.. I still may pick it up though.

Very unique, very memorable...  It's a blend between open-world and designed levels, where exploration never punishes you.  You can also gradually become a truly considerate, helpful character or a complete asshole, and the world reacts accordingly.  2 & 3 were both also good, but never quite captured the spirit of Fable 1.

themc_7
themc_7

@maniacalpoet it's definitely worth picking up. I'll be buying it for the childhood nostalgia, but for 1st timers it's still a really fun game.

The original Fable game was probably one of the best Xbox games ever released. I highly recommend it especially if your a fan of the fantasy, open world type of games.

@Moun7ainMan The more I played 2 & 3 the more I liked them. Of course I played Fable 3 because it was free on Games with Gold, so maybe the price made me a little biased.

@silversix_ How long are people going to react like this every time a game is announced 1080p? It is just so old now. It's not like games are going to look like the first xbox, or begening of last gen.

3 was all about surviving the boring doldrums between the first few hours and the middle of the game.  After the first half, 3 suddenly becomes surprisingly EXCELLENT.
