Microsoft and Lionhead Studios today announced that Fable Anniversary will launch for Xbox 360 on February 4, 2014 in the United States for $40. The game will be available in Asia on February 6 and in Europe on February 7. Fable Anniversary was originally pegged to launch this year, but was delayed in September for extra polishing.

The game is not coming to PC or Xbox One.

Fable Anniversary is described as the "definitive" version of the 2004 role-playing game. It features 1080p high-definition graphics, remastered audio, a new interface, achievements, SmartGlass integration, and The Lost Chapters content.

In addition, Fable Anniversary features a new save system. In the original game, players had a World Save for when they were not on a quest and a Hero Save for when they were. This meant that players were not able to save their progress during many of the game's quests.

All of this has been changed in favor of a checkpoint-based system system, where the game will automatically save your progress. What's more, players can create a manual save at any point if they wish.

Lionhead Studios also announced today that launch copies of Fable Anniversary will come with the Launch Day Weapons & Outfits Pack, featuring the digital content listed below. Players will also receive a special 10th Anniversary Lion's Head Avatar Helmet.

  • Scythe’s Outfit
  • A Black Graduate Outfit
  • A Red Prophet Outfit
  • A Blue Guard Outfit
  • A Red Guard Outfit
  • A Lute Weapon
  • A Will User’s Sceptre Weapon

Fable is not the first original Xbox game that Microsoft has updated for the Xbox 360. Microsoft launched Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary in 2011. In that game, players could press one button at any moment to toggle between the graphics of old and new. This feature is not supported in Fable Anniversary.

Lionhead Studios is also working on Fable Legends for Xbox One.
