Sony Computer Entertainment has announced the release of Extermination for the PlayStation 2. The survival-horror game was developed by Japanese studio Deep Space, whose members have worked on such games as Mega Man, Ghouls 'N Ghosts, Tomba, and the Resident Evil series.

"Extermination utilizes the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system's phenomenal power to fill environments with rich textures, fluidly animated creatures, unique gameplay elements, and pulse-heightening music," said Ami Blaire, director of product marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Gamers will certainly appreciate the spectacular visual scenes, sophisticated weaponry, and intense action. Extermination is like a suspenseful action movie that is going to test the mettle of even the most skilled player with its treacherous mutant creatures, plot twists, and terrifying gameplay.''

To add further authenticity to the game's weapons-based action, Deep Space collaborated with weapons expert Ichiro Nagata during the development of Extermination. Nagata is recognized as an expert in his field and is a writer and photographer for Combat Magazine.
