Explore a Zombie-Infested Egypt in Zombies Monsters Robots' New Update

A big new update to the chaotic third-person shooter brings a lot of new weapons and a new mode.

Publisher En Masse wants you to "kill everything" in its free-to-play third-person shooter, Zombies Monsters Robots. To make this as exciting as possible, it will be releasing a significant update on Tuesday. Entitled Mummy See Mummy Doom, the update includes new maps, weapons, and a new game mode. "Whole cities in China and Egypt have been overtaken and transformed into nightmarish versions of ancient worlds, teeming with hordes of undead horrors," the publisher states.

Along with six new maps, the game is getting Blood Diamonds mode. In the competitive mode, you fight against other players to collect diamonds, which drop from dead bodies.

If you want to know more about the game, you can check out our preview here. It's available on PC and you can download it for free at the Zombies Monsters Robots website. Furthermore, as you might have already noticed below, we've teamed up with En Masse to offer 15,000 GameSpot readers a free in-game weapon. The M1932 semi-automatic handgun equips in the sidearm slot and, we're told, is great for putting an end to zombies, monsters, and robots that get a little too close for comfort.

I see some bad or outdated information about this game in the comments from people in here. I would like to give some facts about the game for those who are possibly interested.

In the game you win bullets for completing maps and missions. Silver, Gold, and Platinum depending on the difficulty you chose for the map. Each bullet allow you access to the free shooting gallery that has possibility of Permanent weapons in it as well as Temporary. The higher grade bullets from the harder difficulties have the better guns and a greater chance for them.

The update will make all guns available in the gold shop purchasable permanently for in-game earned gold. No actual money needed. Also gear in the gold shop will also be perm purchasable. Patch notes are on the ZMR website for those who would like proof.

Poodger said: "For a game that seemed to emphasize boss fights pretty heavily, having only one map with a boss was a major letdown."

This is a complete lie. There are two Operations modes that have a boss at the end of the map even in normal (Easy) mode. If you play in the advanced, expert, and the nightmare modes...there are bosses in many of the maps (in the interest of facts...not all though). In the update there will be more (update hits around midnight PDT). But currently pre-update there are 4 maps with different bosses.

*Opinion follows*

I will not argue with anyone on their definition of P2W. But personally I only think it applies to PVP. And gear with damage reduction and guns with stat boosts in certain maps do not work in PVP. The guns that the best PVP players use are usually found in the gold shop. I also can't speak of all games, however, in my experience even the game that only offered cosmetic items for sale also had a broker. You could sell the costumes in broker and get in game gold...then use that gold to buy materials, weapons, and armor (ect) from the broker and be well geared without even having to play any actual content. If this game is P2W...then so is that model, it just makes you go through a few extra steps. You are free to disagree.

I enjoy the game, and this is my second game with the EME company. I like how they deal with the players. Take for example, the patch is now making all guns in the gold shop Permanent...this was something we asked for as a community and they listened and changed it. As I have said, I enjoy the game and I would encourage anyone to try it. It may not be for everyone, but I like the GoW style game play with the coop modes. I prefer playing coop with players rather than PVP...in any game, and this game really fills that  spot for me.

Hell i'm enjoyng this game a lot, Blind lazy ppl call it P2W

***** Please, this game is not p2w its pay for a better chance to win. You can earn everything by grinding JUST LIKE MOST GAMES OUT THERE THAT ARE f2p. Just because it isn't click click epic gun earned doesn't mean it sucks. why don't you try playing it for more than an hour and then come back and say its pay to win. It's pretty a pretty fun  game i mean zombie, monsters, robots Third Person Shooter and a lot of people love it. I suggest everyone give it a try, i know renting weapons sucks but that is going to change in the next update I am hearing. Come on, lets kill some ZMR's together and have fun like the good ole' days.

So I am guessing the free weapon you get in this giveaway is like the other guns in the game: limited time only.

I was REALLY excited for this game before I played it. And it wasn't a BAD game, but it was disappointing. The menu system was garbage and cluttered, the way you enter into games was bland and cluttered, the experience system and "quest" system was confusing and cluttered, and the gameplay was just missing something. The only map I enjoyed was the Big Dam Heroes map, because it was the only map I could find that had you exploring a facility that ended in a boss fight. Every other mode was just waves of enemies in a small arena like area, which bored me quickly. For a game that seemed to emphasize boss fights pretty heavily, having only one map with a boss was a major letdown.

And my biggest complaint was the weapons system. Now I get that the game has taken a free to play model, so stuff like this shouldn't come as a shock, but only having temporary access to guns you unlock is a major pain in the ass and immediately turned me off from the game as a whole. All the guns in the game are only available to you for like 3 or 4 days after unlocking them... then you have to unlock them again. A good free to play game (Like League of Legends or Team Fortress 2) makes the game as uncluttered and accessible as possible. The gameplay, menus and overall experience are streamlined and the free to play model is supported by the sales of cosmetic items. In short, this game has a VERY heavy pay to win vibe coming off of it as soon as you boot it up and start rooting around the menu screens, and that is before even stepping foot in an actual map. This game is just a mess to navigate and all the systems they have in place make me feel like it would be a second job to maintain all the stuff I unlock.

TL;DR, the game is a cluttered mess with a pay to win vibe. Unfortunate for a game that looked really fun in the previews, especially since I love third person shooters.

Actually gave it a chance and found it to be more fun than I expected. Easy to pick up, level up system, and various game modes. Not bad for a FTP.

I am playin it for today ^^ shootin stuff and such, its unreal engine in constant 60fps (or more) wich is nice for a co-op shooter ... the gun for the code sucks

This game would be really cool "coming from a cod zombies perspective" if everything was done right and hackers would be destroyed. First person mode really needs to be implemented along with elimination of ptw.

Never heard of it. It's remarkable that Free-To-Play garbage like this gets top billing on Gamespot while there are awesome 100+ hour RPGs out there that only quietly receive a review but never make it to the front page.

Screw Free-To-Play. It's all lies, always. If I see one advertisement in this game, or one in game purchase option, F*** THEM AND THEIR MOTHERS. All I see when I see Free-To-Play is a pile of lies and hidden agenda. I know you have to make money to maintain, but if that's the case, don't call it Free-To-Play. You motherf***** have been lying to the people for too long, and THE PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO BE FED MORE LIES

@sphereofzeek Thank you very much. Nail on the head. If only i could say what i mean better but you have done that for me!!! It is true Poodger, you can now perma buy everyone gold shop weapon (non pay to win haha its true) PERMANENTLY. They have added more modes, more guns, more fun, PvP can suck at first but that is only 1 half of the content. We need to get this playerbase up this game is amazing come on people and have fun with us!!!

@nickuraki "Pay for a better chance to win" IS p2w. Spin it however you want, but being able to spend money to access anything more than cosmetics is straight up p2w, whether or not grinding is an option. The fact that "most f2p" games follow a similar system does not make it a good system. There are quality f2p games out there that don't sink to p2w or shortcut mechanics, and offer only cosmetic items for sale. They have set the bar higher than the outdated p2w model.

I hope what you said about the temporary gun thing going away is true. It was rather annoying, and turned me off immediately. Fortunately, this is a beta. Plenty of room and time for improvement. As it stands now, the current state killed alot of my excitement for the game as a whole, so maybe I will boot it up again in a few months to see if the problems I encountered are fixed, but I am no longer itching to play it. And I played the game for about 8 or 9 hours (beat all the PVE levels multiple times, and played a fair amount of PVP), so I got a good sampling of the game. By all means, continue playing it. You are entitled to enjoying it. And I encourage anyone else to go and try it out too, since there is nothing to lose (it is f2p after all). For people on the fence though, heed my warnings in the post below. If the stuff I talked about hits certain buttons for you as well, you may want to save your time.

@Poodger I haven't tried it myself, but we're assured that this weapon unlock is permanent.

@Poodger Confusing? are you six? It says Let's Do This and bam enters you into said match for the mission. I'm sorry it is just saying this game is confusing is like saying reading a book is too complicated, pure laziness.

@Poodger Was thinking about checking this out until I read this heh, I hate that whole temporary gun thing as well.  I think Combat Arms did that, can't remember but there was a free shooter I played briefly that used that system as well, where you buy guns either with real cash or cash you earn in-game and they unlock for different amounts of time depending on how much cash you spend.  I was not a fan of that system.

@sammoth It's been out for less than a month in open beta, it will get better I promise.

@Guest1001 because there is a larger variety of RPGs available? while this genre isn't as huge..

@barleybosh Free to play can be separated into two categories: pay to win and cosmetic based. I fully agree for pay to win games, it is a deceptive and scummy practice. But cosmetic based games are much better. Games like League of Legends, Dota 2 and Team Fortress 2 are exemplary games that follow an honest business model that doesn't screw over gamers, since the only things you can buy are cosmetic items that change how your character looks.

nickuraki

@Poodger You raise very good points and i retract my statement. I have only played something like 2 hours, Hazard Ops is the EU version of this game im downloading it now and i have to say, it seems less p2w. I just wish i could find a game out there similar to this or even fps with a great pve mode like in ZMR. Pvp ill admit seems to be full of hackers or atleast have a few already. I really just want a good honest f2p Pvp with Great PVE available. It's a must for me i love co-op. Plus the fact that hazard ops has heaps more content available is a plus but im in NA and that is for EU lets see how ping goes xD. I'm sorry I came off so harsh im just frustrated with all these p2w claiming f2p I really am. If you or anyone can direct me to a great fps or tps with great co-op modes and PvP ill happily try it. I've done soldier front 1 and 2, combat arms, warrock, tribes ascend, hawken, face of mankind, team fortress came close for me because it is an honest f2p, warframe, man the list goes on. This one i guess i got all hyped up and was left a bit disappointed with lack of players.Firefall looks promising =)

Poodger
Poodger

@JusticeCovert @Poodger That is actually pretty great then. Whatever this weapon is aside, having it as permanent is a great perk

Poodger
Poodger

@nickuraki @Poodger Not at all. Aesthetically speaking, the main menus are a mess. There is clutter everywhere, and it spams you with 15 mission objective windows every time you log in. There is no clear way of finding out how to get to the exact mission you want to play without exploring all the vaguely named tabs. Plenty of other free to play games have streamlined their main menus to avoid any confusion. This game just feels cluttered and cumbersome.

And no, I am 26, and I teach middle schoolers. Thanks for the age assumption.

Poodger
Poodger

@yoda101280 @Poodger Agreed, I would much rather work a little harder to obtain weapons, but then be able to keep them. Temporary stats and equipment in games have always been a gaming pet peeve of mine.

@Liquid_ Shooters or free-to-play games? Because both are practically the only genres we hear about nowadays.

nickuraki

Oh and what i said about permanent guns is true, im hoping it is in next weeks patch =D but yes please help me find an honest f2p with what i specified, i beg you, i cant keep staying up all night searching without doing any actual playing. LoL was fun and still is. I just really want a shooter that can follow that f2p model of cosmetic only, with a good playerbase ofcoure >)

nickuraki
nickuraki

@Poodger @nickuraki Wow. I am very sorry Poodger. That is an honorable profession i honestly mean that. I'm just so frutrated with these free to play lies. I don't know what to do. The menu's are a bit messy but i found a way to ween them out, do 1at a time lol. It sucks but it is open beta, i hope they make this game better in the long run and i hope maybe 1 day me and you can play a game together. You seem very intelligent and again im sorry for assuming it only made an ass out of me this time =(

Can you direct me to the f2p games you know specifically shooters that follow an honest model? I am searching google every night and not even playing any, not only is that sad and pathetic but i think i may be going insane! Please help me Poodger!!

Poodger
Poodger

@nickuraki If the guns become permanent, than a big flaw in this game has been solved. As I said originally, this game isn't bad, it just suffers from some clutter that could easily be fixed with updates.

Poodger
Poodger

@nickuraki I don't know of any third person shooters like this, but Team Fortress follows a similar model to what I was talking about.

nickuraki

@Poodger @nickuraki Tried it and its fun but now that they have worked out the problems in ZMR, im back in. Thank you very much though everyone for your suggestions.
