Expect to See First Dead Island 2 Gameplay During Gamescom

Publisher Deep Silver announces its Gamescom lineup.

Zombie game Dead Island 2 will be playable for the first time ever at Gamescom 2014, publisher Deep Silver has announced.

The Gamescom convention is open to the public, and Deep Silver will have 150 gaming stations for its PC and console lineup where attendees will be able to get hands-on time with its latest games.

Dead Island 2 launches in spring 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Unlike the original, Dead Island 2 is in development at Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager, not Techland, which is working on another first-person zombie game, Dying Light. The open-world game is set several months after the original and takes place in California.

In addition to Dead Island 2, Deep Silver will show off the following games at its public booth in Hall 9.1. B011/C010:

  • Metro Redux -- A remastered collection for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC of the Russian, post-apocalyptic first-person shooters Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light.
  • Risen 3: Titan Lords -- The latest, open-world role-playing game from Piranha Bytes, creators of the Gothic series.
  • Sacred 3 -- A Hack 'n' Slash game with a focus on four player cooperative multiplayer.
  • Dead Island Epidemic -- The Dead Island-themed free-to-play MOBA.
  • Emergency 5 -- The latest installment in the Rescue Strategy series for the PC, which features a new graphics engine.

Gamescom takes place on August 13-17, and GameSpot will be on the ground in Germany to bring you all the news as it happens.

Very ironic - Dead Island 2 being playable for the first time ever in Germany...when it'll never be released here because of censorship like it's predecessor...

I played Dead Island for a little while and I'm just starting Riptide, hope this one is really good and offesr couch co op.

Dead Island already came out.  It's called Riptide.  This is Dead Island 3.

I didn't find Dead Island - games all that good in single-player, but in coop-mode they were a whole lot more enjoyable and definitely worth playing. I'm hoping DI2 will be at least as good in coop as the previous ones, but this time around I would like to request they clean up all the god damn bugs in the games.

Dead Island is the best zombie game I ever played and I hope dying light can do just as well. That said I will love to see some Dead Island 2 game play. Riptide was a huge leap forward from the first dead island.

I have a feeling that this is going to be much better than the first one.

This trailer was one of my favorite things at E3 this year. I didn't like the first game as much as I was hoping for, but I'm ready to give Dead Island 2 a chance.

Zombie games are really getting lame though, it's time for something new. I mean, I feel like a good zombie story still has potential (I like zombies!), but too many zombie games feel like the same old thing all over again...I'm talking about a new perspective, tell me a zombie story I haven't heard 100 times before.

Deep Silver might not be capable of doing that, but hopefully some other (future) developers and studios are.

Meh I'll just get Dying Light. Love Dead Island and Riptide but I will wait for DI2 when it hits the low, low price.

Deep silver is a disapointment to me!

The only good thing is the Metro Redux which i will buy.

Sacred 3 comes without loot and without free to explore world, also only for X360&PS3.

Risen 3 also only for X360&PS3.

Yeah, I bet it's going to revolutionize gaming.

A Dead Island game which isn't on an island, this boggles the mind.

@WereCatf I played Dead Island for awhile but got bored, I think shortly after you get to the second map.  I always thought it might be a lot better in co-op but never had someone to play with.

@Darkangel2154 I've played through both Dead Island games (on PC) and really love the series. I'm looking forward to Dying Light much more than DI 2 though.

@sladakrobot There is a PC version for Sacred 3. But it doesn't matter; they butchered the series and might as well have called it Sacrilege, Unsacred 3 or whatever else, since it's nothing like the previous games in the series. Also, it sucks.

@bernard978 Well it's sealed off :).  I know they wanted to do things with the California culture, but for sealing off a large area Florida would've been far more believable.  They could've even thrown in some story where Florida gets cut off by water and becomes an island :).

Did you get it to run smoothly? I want to play it more, but cant get to run worth a crap.

@leakingdogmilk @warriors30 What? NO! That would be the worst case scenario! (To be fair, I think it already happened...) Fu** Twilight...if you wanna see a good modern vampire movie watch Let the Right One In (2008, from Sweden I believe) or Let Me In (2010, the American remake), those are good vampire movies.

And there's nothing wrong with being a zombie fetishist... they're damn sexy and very good kissers.

@grenadehh @xsonicchaos FarCry 2 did, it raised the bar for open world games, that's just 1 example of not that many.

Witcher and Crysis for graphics perhaps?

@bernard978 @grenadehh @xsonicchaos Fall out 3 raised the bar for all open world rpgs and most are trying to mimic it for its accomplishments. BF4 raised the bar for all companies not to release a broken mess since it will kill their IP.
