Polish game developer Techland has announced its upcoming sci-fi shooter, Chrome, which is currently in development and scheduled for release in 2002. The game takes place in a distant star system on a series of newly colonized planets. Players assume the role of Logan, an interstellar bounty hunter caught in the midst of a conflict over mineral deposits on one of the planets.

Chrome will feature 10 distinct locations including tropical jungles, underground mines, futuristic military bases, orbital bases, and moons. Players will have access to a wide range of weapons such as knives, pistols, sniper rifles, machine guns, plasma rifles, flamethrowers, and rocket launchers. Items such as flashlights, radar, sonar, med-kits, stimulators, and various explosives will also be available in the game. In addition, players can upgrade their characters using implants, which will improve characteristics such as accuracy, health, and speed.

We've posted some exclusive new screenshots from the game in the gallery above. Chrome is currently nearing alpha stage at Techland, the creator of Crime Cities, and it will arrive in stores next spring.
