Ewok companion comes to Star Wars: The Old Republic

Will be available once the 2.3 patch is released on the main servers.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will be adding an Ewok companion in the 2.3 patch, MMO site Dulfy (via Rock Paper Shotgun) reports.

The Ewok companion--called Treek--can be unlocked for the price of 1 million credits once a character is at Legacy level 40, reports Dulfy.

Treek uses heavy armour, and aim is her primary stat. She features both heal and tank stances.

Once the 2.3 patch is released on the main Star Wars: The Old Republic servers, players will be able to purchase Treek from a droid merchant in the Cartel Bazaar.

Dulfy also released a video of Treek explaining her backstory, which contains spoilers:

In May, EA said that its revenue from the Star Wars MMO had doubled since it went free-to-play.

This and dead servers is why I stopped playing what otherwise could of been an awesome game. It is a shame EA got their hands into it

How about fixing the networking engine and optimizing the Hero engine and giving us more content updates?

The story part of Swtor was great. Bioware did a great job. The game only went to shit after EA fired Bioware and took over. Adding an ewok companion isn't going to bring back to life the game that EA killed.

Nothing screams I ruined Star Wars like Ewoks. Except maybe Gungans...

Only companion ? That sucks, would be better if they introduce some new races and classes... maybe then Im willing to come back, but not for this.

I liked the Jawa you get in BH and why not use the Ewok for the commando trooper class?

Damn u have to be legacy level 40? I have 2 lvl 55 characters and 2 lvl 50 characters and I'm only legacy lvl 34...Not that I want this companion lol. Don't see the appeal of ewoks. Besides, the companions in this game are a joke. So shallow compared to the depth of those in the KOTOR games.

Get a midget and dress him up in a bear costume. There you go, real life ewok companion.

I didn't realize it until now, but this is exactly what this game was missing. Throw in a Jar Jar Binks companion, and I will have a sub in this game for decades.

And now begin the tirades about the game by people who don't play the game

And in typical Bioware fashion, the new companion is bisexual.

To people bitching about the f2p model, there are much worse ones out there. SWTOR allows you to play through all of the story content unrestricted. DDO and LOTRO have 90% of its content locked away. If you want to play all of the content in those two games, you HAVE to pay money. Simple as that. Then there's Age of Conan which has worse restrictions than SWTOR as well.

Trust me, however bad you think TOR's restrictions are, there are A LOT of p2p MMO's that have gone f2p and have much worse restrictions. Besides, if you're intelligent you use the Cartel Market to shape your experience for less than the monthly fee.

Only want to do PVP? By a warzone pass for significantly less than the price of a monthly fee. Want to do only the PVE content. By a Flashpoint pass and ignore the warzone pass, again paying less then the monthly fee to get everything. Just buying one of those things once, which is super cheap, improves your status permanently and many restrictions are removed.

The only time it actually becomes a problem is when you get greedy. When you want the same benefits as the subscribers, which is just stupid. Why should you get the same benefits as people who are paying more than you? The f2p model for TOR isn't anywhere near as bad as people think it is. They jump to conclusions about it and make assumptions without doing any research.

For people who genuinely just hate it, that's fine. But there are maybe two or three MMO's out there that have a better f2p model but don't have anywhere near the amount of fun story content that TOR has.

Nice try EA, still won't play an MMO. Single player epic games ftw! Give us KoToR 3!

Was very disappointed in this game.  Had a lot of excitement in the beginning in testing phases and then at launch.  It quickly fell flat for me across the board after leveling up two characters.  So much emphasis on voice over when i pretty much skipped all of it to get to play.  O well, what can you do.  I know they worked hard on the game but in the end i just got bored with it.

@airshocker Naw what ever are you talking about I'm sure Disney will start digitally enhancing all their products that don't sell with Ewoks as well.

People love Ewoks right?

@Alex4789123 Juhani and Bastilla then Handmaiden and Visas. best companion system any video game has ever had in my opinion its a shame it feel so much in Swtor but I guess playing with friends is enough (sigh).

@Auriken He's right, with SWTOR's model, you can tailor the game to your specs and only pay for what you want.  But I don't know how anyone can resist that beautiful gear....and those packs....I spent $400 in one month once....

NoxiousBass

@Auriken I agree with you. Guess that a lot of people just want it all for nothing.

Meteor7

@Auriken The main reason I steer clear of the F2P MMOs is the whole reason that nothing truly is free. Sure you get to play through the whole story, but when you want to raid or get gear from the battlegrounds, you must pay for crap to allow you to get loot or see certain content. Sure not every MMO is successful, but it feels like I have to subscribe just to get something out of the game, what is the difference then? F2P is a trap that is placed for a quick cash in.

jprspecops
jprspecops

@Daian I completely agree.  I honestly don't think Star Wars as a franchise is suited for an MMO. If they made an open world Star Wars game on consoles (and PC) without all of the "subscription" and "free to play" crap, it would probably be a gold mine.

Yamakoichi
Yamakoichi

@vatorus @Yamakoichi Story was good, people I played with were good, infact we killed two servers as sith because the republic players left from losing every warzone.

This F2P model is an awful joke and there is no good endgame content to keep me interested, I was one of the first level 50s as I got there in the first week of the two week pre-launch, I got war hero and full custom war hero gear before ranked even came out. by then my whole guild was bored senseless of the pointless warzones so we never got into ranked.

I did hear they merged servers, however that will not bring me back for more pointless warzones that I have won a million times, they should of done daily planetary events where you have PVP to take control of planets that give bonuses to your race, maybe then it would of kept more people than it did.

Unless they add in a way for me to kill that ewok...... got 20 seconds into the intro-video and decided it was time to go play that DLC level on force unleashed....

All in all this project should not of been a WoW clone, the rest of it was amazing, role on the next Star Wars RPG I say

@jprspecops @Daian I'll go with "You are wrong about Star Wars doesnt suited for MMO" its one of the most suited games in the history. %99 of the MMO's out there cant stay strong becouse there are 7-8 million people still pays to wow 15$ per month. Becouse its easy , you actually dont have to do anything. When you make a game even %1 harder than the wow , its gonna go down it doesnt matter if its good or masterpiece. If its not like wow easy it will not work.

Yamakoichi
Yamakoichi

@arqe @jprspecops @Daian It is such a shame the way this game went, it was truly amazing, the stories were wonderful, the classes well thought out, however they got lazy with PVP, endgame PVE and factions with the whole Sith and Republic being clones of each other.

It is a shame that rather than add in the promised updates, like the ranked pvp fiasco, they were too busy focusing on micro-transactions, we all knew back then where this was going and that is why so many people unsubbed.

After all what can you expect when a game makes a F2P model so awful to try and force people who like the game to pay again.

Let us hope whoever does the next Star Wars MMO does not make a WoW clone system

@arqe @jprspecops @Daian Not to mention Star Wars  Galaxies was just amazing in every way pre-NGE. Will be going back to that once the SWG EMU is finished.
