When it comes to fighting-game tournaments, the Evolution Championship Series and Godsgarden tournaments in the US and Japan, respectively, are probably the best known in the world. The first-ever Evolution vs. Godsgarden fighting tournament was supposed to take place in Japan soon, but the event has unfortunately been cancelled due to the effects of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

The news was announced on the event's official website. The decision was made after much discussion from event organizers following the natural disaster, stating that they were concerned about the event not being able to go smoothly, as well as players having difficulty flying to Japan.

The collaboration between Japan's Godsgarden and North America's Evolution tournament was originally scheduled to be held on May 6 and 7 at Warehouse Kawasaki, located in Kanagawa, Japan. The fighting games featured in the crossover event were Super Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
