Sony's E3 demonstrations ran on a regular PS4, not the upcoming new and improved model.

All of Sony's E3 demos on Monday night ran on a PlayStation 4, not the upcoming, more powerful PlayStation Neo. Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida confirmed this on Twitter today.

During its briefing, Sony did not say one way or the other about what platform its demos ran on. Some of the demos, including the one of the new God of War, were played using a DualShock 4. It remains to be seen if the Neo will also use this controller.

Some of the other games Sony demonstrated on stage on Monday night during its E3 briefing included Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Last Guardian, Detroit: Become Human, and Days Gone.

PlayStation executive Andrew House confirmed the Neo less than a week ago. He said it is not being positioned as a full replacement for the existing PS4.

"It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4," he said. "We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle."

A price for Neo was not announced, though House said it would be higher than that of the standard PS4. However, he didn't say the existing PS4 would remain at its current $350 price, which would leave open the door for the Neo to assume that $350 spot.

House also didn't share the specific hardware it will be equipped with, making it difficult to get a sense of how much it will cost to Sony to produce. Whatever the case, the new system will not be sold at a loss out of the gate.

The Neo was not shown at E3. For its part, Microsoft revealed its own more powerful Xbox device, Scorpio, at E3. This system is scheduled to launch in holiday 2017, though Sony has not yet announced when the Neo will come out.
