Sony Online Entertainment has announced deals with two game developers to create games based on EverQuest, its massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Under the agreement, Sony Online will publish a real-time strategy EverQuest game in development at Rapid Eye Entertainment, a California-based studio founded by a member of the team behind 3DO's Might and Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic game series. The publisher will also release an EverQuest-based game for the Sony PlayStation 2 that is in development at Snowblind Studios, the Washington-based developer that created Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance for the PlayStation 2.

"We've made it a point to work closely with leading developers to create the best possible gaming experience," said Russell Shanks, senior vice president and chief technology officer for Sony Online. "As we expand our product line into new genres, our mission is to deliver compelling content and online capabilities to PC and console systems worldwide."

Sony plans to release more information about the upcoming games at a later date. For more information about EverQuest, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
