Sony Online has announced that it will include incentives to encourage longtime EverQuest players to participate in EverQuest II. Some of the incentives are specifically intended for those who subscribe to both games, such as exclusive crossover quest zones that include hidden treasures. Additional incentives and features will be announced in the coming months.
Set 500 years after EverQuest, EverQuest II will be a different sort of game experience that takes place in a world marred by a fantastic life-changing event. Players can create characters by choosing from 16 races and 48 classes and by using a much more robust facial customization system. The world of Norrath will contain both new and familiar locations, and players will be able to own real estate and boats. EverQuest II is scheduled to launch in the US and Canada this winter.
"EverQuest II is a new and very dynamic online gaming experience that will change the landscape for massively multiplayer online games for years to come," said Michael Lustenberger, director of product marketing at Sony Online. "We realize all the time and effort our loyal fan base has invested in building their characters within the EverQuest universe and we want to reward them for their efforts as they try the next generation of EverQuest."
In related news, Sony Online announced that it will release a new EverQuest compilation targeted at new players. EverQuest: Evolution will present the original EverQuest game and the first five expansion packs in one box, plus two maps of the various continents of the gameworld. EverQuest: Evolution is scheduled for release this fall.
