EverQuest goes Titanium

Deluxe pack will include original MMORPG, 10 expansions for measly 20-spot. Adventuring begins January 11.

Even though EverQuest has been running for more than five years and its sequel has been out for more than one year, Sony Online Entertainment believes that the game still has legs. The online branch of Sony is repackaging EverQuest with its first 10 expansions for another shot at retail. The set will cost $19.99, and though it hasn't been officially rated, none of its parts exceeded a rating of T for Teen.

EverQuest Titanium, as it will be called, will come on five discs and will include the following:

EverQuest
EverQuest: The Ruins of Kunark
EverQuest: The Scars of Velious
EverQuest: The Shadows of Luclin
EverQuest: The Planes of Power
EverQuest: The Legacy of Ykesha
EverQuest: Lost Dungeons of Norrath
EverQuest: Gates of Discord
EverQuest: Dragons of Norrath
EverQuest: Omens of War
EverQuest: Depths of Darkhollow

Not only is Norrath's presence at retail expanding, but its presence on the Web will grow as well. On December 15, SOE will fire up the Web site EQ Players, an Internet-based portal designed to enhance EQ players' interactivity with the realm outside of the game. Character profiles, statistics, and items will all be available for EverQuesters for free until December 29, when a monthly fee will be initiated.

When I talk bad about WoW, I dont want anyone to get the wrong idea. I think WoW had some good ideas. For instance its quest system was far better than any other MMO i think ive seen so far. But ultimately it is missing the hardcoreness that certain MMOs like EQ had. The game was intended to be enjoyable for the populous and I think it accomplished that and allowed more people to recongize a great genre of games. But still it lacks alot of what a great MMO like EQ has. Even EQ2 was just horrible, far worse than WoW. But WoW definitely missed the epic feeling that you got from playing WoW. And most players I know stop playing WoW after less than 6 months. I still know people playing EQ from even when it first started.

Personally, I hate WoW, I thought Final Fantasy Online was decent, I liked Asheron's Call but it got old, Galaxies was boring, EQ2 just didn't feel right...I've been a wandering MMORPG'er for years now and I can't remember the last time I played a game as wonderful as the original Everquest. I was considering going back to it after just recently cancelling WoW and FFXI (though it's christmas and Im getting Guild Wars and Dark Age of Camelot and giving those a go). How dare ANY of you make a mockery of Everquest. It DEFINED MMORPG's. It is the father of MMORPG's. I remember when I couldn't log onto the internet without hearing "Evercrack" muttered. It's addictive, it's solid, it's fun, it has an epic feel you can't find anywhere else. It's so deep and just an overall incredible game. They updated the graphics too for you people obsessed with only that >_>. I'm sorry but don't speak badly about a game if A) you've never played it B) you don't like it solely on graphics...if you do that and grew up with an SNES and Super Mario RPG and don't think that's cool anymore because of the graphics, I feel bad for you C) Considering the number of people online and playing MMORPG's back when Everquest was at its peak, it was amazingly popular. I bet you, if you compared the popularity per online gamer for both WoW and Everquest during their respective peaks, Everquest would be higher in the percentage of people playing it. I still like it more than WoW..WoW is Everquest Lite...Everquest for kids...they can't be compared.

I simply got tired of wasting so much of my life in EQ to accomplish menial tasks, and I find WoW a far better game, as do most people these days. Still, the most fascinating times I'll ever have in an MMO were those first few weeks in EQ, back in 1999....

EQ is sooo much better than WoW. WoW's content gets dull in less than a month and thats how long it takes to get level 60. Cause you level way to fast in the game, where as in EQ you actually felt like you accomplished something when you made it to the top level. WoW just gave newbs an MMO to play, cause the classes in the game are soo dull that even a 2 year old can master any one of them. If you guys are looking for a new good MMO look at Dark and Light or Vanguard Saga of Heroes. Vanguard is being made by 2 of the orginal creators of EQ.

You play MMO's for the gameplay.. not the graphics.. 0_- Playing WoW to the end I see how lacking its end game is when compared to EQ... EQ in my opinionhad the most memorable moments and the fact it was the only MMO to give randomized dungeons...

I lost about a year of my life to this game. This was back when it was new in 99. I don't really play MMORPGs much anymore, since I don't have the time for one, but I will say I had more fun with this one than any other. Nothing else ever came close. The community back then was just a blast. I've debated going back in, but so much has changed I doubt I'd even know where to begin anymore.

I've never tried the game, but I do know it can be addicting.

You guys do realize that the original everquest still has something like half a million players worldwide playing it, right? You may not see the value in this, but clearly there's still something to the old game that keeps it going.

Tried to play EQ on several occasions but it never really 'grabbed' me the way that my first time in Azeroth did. Recently re-activated my SWG account to try that again and...well... WoW still beats them both hands down! The only other one i was looking forward to was Imperator, which has since been canned. Looks like I'll stay with WoW for the time being. But $19.99 is an EXCELLENT price.

I don't think even everquest is ready to die though, i keep playing because there is just so much to do, yes technology has advanced but i played eq2 and played wow and just feal so restricted when playing like there are too many rules when in the original everquest you are very much free to try to do so much. Also i have noticed tons of people coming back from eq2 and coming back from wow just because the game is so massive so the original everquest has a huge advantage and that is its massive world and sooooo much endgame stuff to do. Thats what keeps the game alive now.

MMOs don't age, they die.

how does age have any bearing on the quality of a game? How old are Starcraft, Morrowind, and Diablo II?

Sony is only doing this to fight WoW, and they're going to lose.

Yes... I know it was the first breakout MMORPG... but it is 5YEARS LATER... we have WOW and EQ2! Technology has progressed. Just because parachute pants were all the rage in the 80's, doesn't mean I am going to patch them up so I can wear them again... it is time to move on.

I wonder if GS got the price right? In their other recent EQ news listing, Depths of Darkhollow apparently costs $29.99. So anyone who already plays EQ and only needs the new expansion would buy this pack because its cheaper. What a waste of production material.

You know guys, this game was the first MMORPG to break out, and basically paved the way for all the others that are out there. I still think that there are things about it that make it much more interesting than the current batch of console-mentality MMORPG's that are out today. Where is the depth in WoW or EQ2? Not there, leads you by the hand instead of requiring you to spend serious brain cells to figure things out. So I guess if you like being lead by the hand and not having to expend brain power to figure things out then yeah, it sucks. :-) Seriously though, the others wouldn't be here if not for EQ. I know there was that other sucky game (UltimaOnline) that was out before EQ but this one is the one that paved the way. PS none of these were the first MMORPG's anyway, I played one on a mainframe that had more folks than most FPS network games allow even today playing together.

Everquest was actually the MMO that I enjoyed the most. Even though I think World of Warcraft is probably the best made, Everquest was so new and fresh at the time when I played. Everyone was very social and most people had a reputation on the servers that we played. The game felt like there was a lot more interaction than any other MMO I have played. Besides by the time I got to playing WoW, I was pretty much sick of MMO's at this point. I wish Sony would just do what Anarchy Online did and omit the monthly fee.
