Developer CCP Games is known for its MMO, EVE Online, but it also is currently working on a first-person dogfighting game called EVE: Valkyrie for Oculus Rift and Morpheus VR headsets. Now, the company announced its next VR project, Gunjack, which will be exclusive to the Samsung Gear VR.

In Gunjack, players take the role of turret gunners in mining ships. You're tasked with defending your mining ship from pirates and other enemy forces. The game is set in the EVE universe, in the Outer Ring region. You can check out the reveal trailer below.

The gameplay appears pretty similar to EVE: Valkyrie's, except a little more like an arcade shooter. It's also beautiful--the game's being developed in Unreal Engine 4, and its visuals seem impressive for a game on a mobile device.

According to the announcement of the game, CCP is investing heavily in virtual reality systems. "We believe that virtual reality will be a defining element of gaming's future," CEO Hilmar Petursson wrote. "It may take some time to get widespread adoption, but we're going to be there on day one. We're making smart investments in VR so we can learn important lessons early and blow people's minds when they get their hands on their first VR headset."

Gunjack is planned for release alongside the retail launch of Gear VR this fall. Not much else is known about the game at this time, but keep an eye on GameSpot for more news about Gunjack in the coming months.
