Enslaved DLC adds Pigsy story, 3D

Ninja Theory's postapocalyptic action adventure receiving side-story update, stereoscopic depth-of-field support for $10 later this year.

Namco Bandai scored critical success with Ninja Theory's all-new action adventure Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and that experience will soon be extended for fans of the game. Today, the publisher announced that the game's first piece of downloadable content, Pigsy's Perfect 10, would be released later this year alongside an option to play the original game and the new add-on in 3D.

The DLC tells a side story to the main events in the game, one that is focused on technical wunderkind Trip's corpulent friend, Pigsy. In it, Pigsy sets out to build himself a perfect companion using scrap parts he is able to salvage around the Titan Graveyard area.

Pigsy needs himself a lady friend.

As Pigsy's physical prowess is far different from that of main-game protagonist Monkey, Namco Bandai is promising a largely different play experience. Namely, the add-on focuses largely on stealth and sniper gunplay, as well as tech-heavy tools, such as explosives and other devices.

The add-on will also update the game with TriOviz for Games Technology, which confers stereoscopic 3D graphics to the core game and the Pigsy's Perfect 10 add-on. However, gamers will still need a 3D-capable television with accompanying glasses to experience the content. Those with 2D HDTV sets can also experience the content, should they purchase TriOviz's proprietary 3D glasses, which will be available later this year.

Namco Bandai did not offer a specific release window for the Pigsy's Perfect 10 add-on, saying only that it will be available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year. It will cost $10 (800 Microsoft points).

BelovedSpear: I think Sandy is actually a Kappa a type of water demon from mythology. That's what someone told me when I was living in Japan anyway?

They lost me when they said it focuses largely on stealth. >_>

A reminder, kids: Pigsy is one of the core characters in the 16th century Chinese story "Journey to the West," on which this game is based. Monkey is the trickster god Hanuman, and Trip is Tripitaka, a bodhisatva. Next up for DLC might be Sandy, a human-eating fish-man. So much gaming potential in ancient myth...

Who doesn't love comic relief sleazy pig men? What's not to love? Generally I'm not a big DLC fan as I feel it is a bit of a rip-off but this game is so good I will make an exception. Ninja Theory please provide some Trip DLC.

Granted I've only played the demo, and he's not in it, this Pigsy character just *looks* like one of those "obligatory irritating characters" that every game seems to have.

@thelegendlives5 That's not really true. If there was NO such thing as DLC this probably would have never been made in the first place. But now developers can make a little extra cash from the people who are really into the game by making an add-on quickly before there money goes to some other game or entertainment property. If they waited like half a year to a year would there still be interest? Most likely not. Strike while the iron is hot.

I hate it when games get a DLC just a month or two after launch. Its like this DLC should have been part of the game. Instead just launch the game with that DLC, especially for a game like enslaved which got lower scores than it deserves because its "too short". Including that DLC might have raised the scores and it would have sold better.

Sounds good but I'd rather some DLC where you get to play as Trip. With stealth based gameplay maybe?

No matter what they add, this game will never approach the awesomeness that was Saiyūki.

I hate the fact that they make short games at $60 a pop so they can charge you a fee later to extend the story slightly.

Interesting to see, Enslaved is a great game with a solid story, even if the gameplay is a bit flawed.

.... You know, all this talk of incomplete games that are "partly released" would make sense of this were an epilogue or if it even featured the same major characters. This is a side-story starring a side-character with a totally different playing style. This makes perfect sense as a DLC add-on. This not being in the game off the shelf doesn't at all make Enslaved "partly released."

@ PUREPL7YA Yep...seems that games are partly released at full price and then DLC's nickle and dime us. DLC is a great idea..however it also leaves room for the temptation of greed and giving developers the excuse to release unfinished games.

UGH! Its official...DLC is now part of the norm.
