Today, Netherlands-based Engine Software has released new information on PSP Racing (working title), which was first announced toward the end of last year. The game, which has recently been given concept approval by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, is described as a futuristic street racer set in dark, industrial environments. Players will be able to unlock extra characters and gameplay modes as they progress through the game. Engine has confirmed that it will take advantage of the PSP's network and connectivity options.

"We acquired an official license from Sony and we are proud to present PSP Racing as a launch title," said Ruud van de Moosdijk, Engine Software's head of development. "We feel the PlayStation Portable will enrich the games industry, and we have high expectations for this new device. The PSP offers so many features that it is best described as a portable entertainment system, rather than only a gaming handheld."

PSP Racing is currently scheduled for release alongside Sony's PSP handheld in the first quarter of 2005. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
