End of Nations dev laying off 30 - Report

Las Vegas-based Petroglyph Games supposedly enacts round of layoffs; MMORTS game postponed but not canceled.

As many as 30 developers at End of Nations studio Petroglyph Games have been laid off, Eurogamer reports. Though not confirmed from the Las Vegas, Nevada studio itself, tweets from game designer Adam Stevens seem to confirm the news.

"Well, it appears this winter break will be extended indefinitely," Stevens said. This was followed by, "Layoffs at Petroglyph. Looking like I'll be leaving Las Vegas."

News of layoffs at the company follows publisher Trion and Petroglyph indefinitely postponing the open beta phase for End of Nations, with refunds going out to those who had already made a purchase. Petroglyph said "several key areas" of End of Nations need "polish and improvement."

Fears of the massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game's outright cancellation appear to be without merit, as End of Nations community manager Lance James bluntly stated in the game's forums, "End of Nations has not been canceled!"

Thats terrible, this game was on good track from what i played... what the hell? if this gets canned I dunno what to think about the state of the gaming industry as a whole when game like this simply cannot make it.... Yes it needs work, of course, its an MMO, there is always something that needs to be done, but to can 30 ppl? thats a tad redicalous and sending a clear message about the state of the game in my opinion....

That's former Westwood Studios, isn't it?

Sad to hear. I hope they do okay after this.

Hope they find work soon.  EoN was good, but not without its issues.  Most of them were the same balancing and unit usage issues that every RTS faces.  I would have liked to see a more open world or larger map scenarios.  The scale of the maps and number of units on the board didnt quite convey the massive persistent battles I imagined.
