Enchanted Arms to embrace PS3

From Software's next-generation role-playing game will be ported to the PS3 in winter 2006; new version will be port of Xbox 360 edition.

by

From Software has put up a teaser site for a new PlayStation 3 game: Enchanted Arms--or Enchant Arm as it's known in Japan. The site is short on details, stating only that the game will be single-player and available this winter.

According to an article on Famitsu.com, this game is a port of the Xbox 360 title, which was released in January 2006 in Japan and was followed by a North American release this August. According to Famitsu, Enchanted Arms is being produced by Masanori Takeuchi, who also worked on the Xbox 360 version.

For more information on the game, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

huh if they're going to port games from the 360 to the ps3 why dont they make new content downloadable for the 360 it doesnt seem fair that a 360 owner paid the same amount of money to receive less than the ps3 owners its just a way for game companies to milk a franchise which seems to be getting out of hand now

false, this is not a port, from software said yesterday ( 4 december ) that it's gonna have more cinematics and more story. they said even if we finished the original ( on xbox 360 ), we'll have enought new things and story to buy the new version also! :D I won't finish it on my x360, but on my ps3 then! lol

Humm I'm not sure how much interest I have for this game. I've heard so many mixed comments from people that have actually played it, not just meaningless internet "reviews". If it is still around by the time I pick up a PS3, I might check it out if it has dropped to around ~$30. It will depend on what people say after having finished it. What does seem interesting is that this might be just the start of Japanese 360 games being brought to PS3. Hopefully if the 360 continues to tank in Japan, we will see games like Blue Dragon brought to the PS3 as well. It would be hard to ignore the much larger Japanese PS3 market, in favor of a much smaller 360 Japanese market for long. It would be a shame to see good games/developers not get the sales they deserve. Before the fanboys attack, I'm not wishing the 360 bad luck, I'm just looking at the position that the 360 jRPG developers are in and drawing a logical conclusion.

lol Oblivion exclusive lol not anymore its already been announced for PS3 with a new job type. it actually looks almost complete too so there goes 360's ace as far as rpg's go. then again microsoft hasn't been known for having quantity in it's rpg's selection. maybe quality but not quantity and even less in jrpg's

Again, I didn't say Echanted Arms was bad. I would have stopped at 15% if I didn't find it pleasing and entertaining. It is, however, very linear and repetitive, quite likely to leave RPGs veterans somewhat unsatisfied. The battle system may be original but it's simplistic and lacks variety, even when you try to inject some. When it comes to the battle system, EA is no Shadow Hearts: Covenant or FFX. And it is painfully easy, with virtually no sidequests (OK, there's , sort of...). My biggest problem with it, I guess, is that it so totally lacks personality. It's a hodgepodge of other RPGs (talk about a clone!) and the gameworld is seriously bland. I think the GS review sums it perfectly: enjoyable but forgettable.

The only bar the PS2 set was in the number of linear clones it had for RPG's. It had it's few RPG's that really stood out, I'll give it that much. I'm 66% into EM and I'm loving it. While it does have it's issues, such as bad voice acting, linear game progress and lifeless environments... It has been an enjoyable ride none the less. It has a rock solid battle system, a decent story with some incredible visuals. The game may feel a bit unfinished but it's not broken. 360 still has Oblivion as it's exclusive, for now. As for FF being announced as exclusive for PS3... Well now, exclusive announcements really don't hold much water anymore, now do they? With Square Enix producing games multi-platform now, anything is possible. I for one, have no interest in Square-Enix anymore after the last batch of crap they have released. I think Tri-Ace has the only decent RPG efforts out of SE this last gen.

We'll call it an appetizer for the quality when RPGs are concerned. Let's hope the PS3 lives up to its predecessor.

Sagacious_Tien, I guess RPGs are not so bad. At first, I did not particularly care for them, but they have kind of grown on me over the years. But, you're right; there may as well be some really good ones on the horizon.

tastethechase: You need not worry. With so many RPG's announced, there should be some real good ones coming. Also, Xbox360 already has a decent RPG, arguably it will be a GOTY contender. It's called Elders Scrolls: Oblivion.

peeweeshift - It's not the GS review people are concerned with it's the half dozen OTHER review that say it's tempid crap. One or two people might like it even gabe at Penny Arcade defends it but when there such a unanimous distaste across more than one review site tat has to mean there are issues that need addressing. Frankly for the prices we're being asked to pay now I don't want to HOPE it's good I want to KNOW it's good. I don't know that about this game.

This game is absolute crap anyway. Can we have a decent RPG for the 360 please.

@ Arthururatani LOL thanx for noticing. That fps you are talking about, i totally have that on pre-order. I haven't totally given up on rpgs yet but sheesh the sameness of them all and the melodramatic storylines are melting my brain. I promise i will be all over phantasy star online, mass effect and (lol) huxley.

After having glanced over at my game collection, I have to wonder if EM will be ported in the US market for PS3 at all... My copy of EM says "ONLY ON XBOX 360"... What ever that means.

nice copypasta fanboy this is like listening to a george w bush address, you keep spouting the same crap over and over. Of course LO and BlueDragon are 360 exclusives, and MS is going to have to pay $$$ out the wazoo to keep them. The US has a small niche of RPG fanatics (even less so among xbox fans) compared to the Japanese market, where RPGs are their Maddens and HALOs. For the Devs to recoup $$$, they will have to be subsidized by Microsoft itself. lol. Both titles are of marginal importance anyways, since another RPG w/ Toriyama charachter designs will no doubt be out for Wii this holiday, ( and likely a PS3 DQ title in 07-08 ), but no one will buy a 360 for the sake of 2 RPGs. period. PS3 has Enchant Arm, FF XII, vs. XIII, Marvel : Ulitmate Alliance, LOtR: white council, Elvon, a Shin Megami Tensei title, Makai Wars, and more, as well as yet to be named RPGs by From Software, SCEI itself, Quantic Dream, MichaelSoft, as well as cont'd support from GREAT Devs like SquareEnix, ATLUS, Nippon Ichi and more. No one will buy a 360 for RPGs. no one. This holiday season no one will beable to find a PS3, plus there are no good games for it yet anyways. Will a hardcore RPGer pick up a 360 + Enchant Arm? No, they'll get a Wii and DQ: Swords, or twilight princess for the most part. I will.

Tomorrowsdeead, You are correct, the game is developed by From Software and published by Ubisoft. I was writing this article as a response to something that someone else had written that said Gears of War would be released for the PC. However, that will NOT happen. PERHAPS, SOMEDAY, it MAY happen, kind of like Halo 2 coming to Windows Vista, 5 years later, but it won't happen anytime soon. That was the main point I was trying to make. I will not copy and paste my article in a way that is 100% corrected: Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey are signed as exclusive to the Xbox 360, just like Gears of War. Microsoft Game Studios is doing the official publishing of those games. Enchanted Arms was developed by From Software and published by Ubisoft. That is the reason why it can potentially come to the Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 version of the game will not be release for quite a while. It takes a long time to develop games for the Playstation 3; it is much more difficult to develop games for than the Xbox 360. A difficult development environment is one of the biggest flaws of the Playstation 3. Obviously, this must be a "timed exclusive" game. Enchanted Arms is a pretty good game if you like RPGs. When the PS3 version of the game is released, the Xbox 360 version will be selling for nearly half its original cost; look at games like Fight Night Round 3, Dead or Alive 4, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo: Elements of Power, and so many others for proof of this. Plus, the Xbox 360 version will include Rumble in the controller...that is definitely something that would be missed in the Playstation 3 version of the game. It is always something special when your sword or some other form of weapon collides with an enemy; the controller vibrates, and it feels like you are a part of the game. Also, when an enemy hits you, it makes you feel like a part of the game because the controller shakes. This is especially nice on the Xbox 360 version, because the Xbox 360 has so many varying levels of vibration that feel different. This is a feature that will be very missed in the Playstaiton 3 version, because the Playstation 3 controller does not include vibration features like former Playstation controllers. The thought of playing a boxing game, a football game, a hockey game, a baseball game, or really any sort of game without rumble or vibration features in the controller is terrible...The Playstation 3 is a big disappointment...Having to wait the whole year for a "port," then having to pay extra, and then having the game without vibration in the controller is terrible.

Terami
Terami

I don't care for the rumble feature anymore personally. I shut it off in all games on my 360 as it saves battery life and isn't a useful feature. I have to disagree on comments made of EM being just like every FF game out there as it's clearly not like those games in it's fighting engine, which is unique and all it's own. About the only similarity between EM and any FF fighting engine would be that they are turn based but that's it. EM's fights have complete random character placements, making each fight a little different. EM is a grid based system that requires strategy(more so in the tougher fights mind you). In EM, you have to worry about the placing of your characters for both attack and defense. Especially in boss fights, not thinking in advance can end your game quickly. Anywho, I think it's great that the PS3 owners will have a chance to enjoy this addictive RPG as well. The farther I get into it, the more I am enjoying it. It's one of the few more recent RPG's that actually made me laugh out loud a few times.

maybe sony will include rumble in their controllers for another 100$

Rumble has only been good since the first installment weither it maybe N64, or PS1. The Point of it all was it was good during it's time but alot of ppl seem to not focus on the rumbling during a game. Why? because ppl are to into the game to notice whats going on around them. Specially when a controller is rumbling on their hands. I like it in it's first installment of the PS1, but couple months later I just don't notice anymore. When i'm playing a game I'm not remembering which part of the game made the controller rumble the most. I remembering which part of the game was the coolest cause this game has so and so best Scenes in the game.

SoraTheExtreme Rumble does'nt matter, who gives a crap if your hands shake while playing a game? We did'nt need it on NES, SNES or MegaDrive... or any other old generation console... So, according to your logic, we don't even need a 3rd dimension in our games...nice logic...

not really, i like nintendo too. I just dont think a gimmick like rumble should be a selling point for a $500+ electronic device.

@mike_mgoblue Developed by Ubisoft? Hell no! Ubisoft doesn't make Japanese RPGs. You need to be a Japanese company to do that. Also exclusive doesn't need to mean anything. I know of many "exclusive" Xbox titles that made their way to the PC. Their excuse was that they were only "console exclusives". I don't see it happening with JRPGs though and Epic never ported their Xbox exclusive Unreal games to PC so Gears of War has a good chance of staying exclusive too. But PC ports of 360 exclusives WILL happen.

Enchanted Arms is a very nice rpg, and I'm enjoying it in my 360. That said, the only thing next-gen about this game are the graphics. Everything else plays just like the FF series for PS2, nothing revolutionary about it. Obviously, I won't be getting a PS3 version, even if they up the graphic quality (which is something I doubt, as it already looks excellent in HD for the 360)

Why do you guys love soulless corporations that would sell you into slavery for money and profit so much? Do you "really" want a convicted monopoly like Microsoft or a happily proprietary company like Sony to rule the gaming world? Is this what you nut cases really want? Because I can tell you that's not what I want... I frankly think we will get shafted beyond all comprehension but hey... Some of you appear to want to be drones so good luck with that...
