Elemental: War of Magic raging August 24

Stardock's strategy game arriving late summer on PC alongside backstory-heavy novel.

The Starcraft II beta ended today and while fans of the Blizzard series will have to wait until July 27 to play more, followers of Stardock's latest strategy game can continue to partake in an ongoing beta and circle a release date in August.

Stardock's library of strategy games will grow August 24 with the release of Elemental: War of Magic for the PC. Elemental is the latest in a string of strategy titles from Stardock, including Demigod, Sins of a Solar Empire, and the Galactic Civilizations series. It will be available that day via Stardock's content delivery system, Impulse and at retail.

Only the greatest of strategic minds could breach these walls.

As for the game, it's currently in ongoing beta and available only to those who preorder the title. In the game, players assume the role of the sovereign and must fight nefarious death knights and other wicked entities. The game features turn-based combat and allows players to build a town and take advantage of its bustling economy.

Additionally, the game will release alongside a novel titled Elemental: Destiny's Embers, penned by Stardock CEO Brad Wardell and published by Random House. It will relate the game's lore and define some of the in-game terms.

I of course hope the game is finished before release but man, I hope this doesn't miss its release date. Been looking forward to a new game from stardock for awhile. They just scratch a certain strategy itch for me that few other publishers do these days for turn-based strats =)

This will be the surprise game of the year. If it's anywhere near as cool as the o'l Master of Magic, then we're looking at a masterpiece to be!!

Lostn: "Still waiting for Master of Magic 2, or Age of Wonders 3. This will have to do to tide me over until then. Unfortunately, AOW's developers have been busy making those god-awful Overlord games." Elemental was supposed to be a Master of Magic sequel, but the guys who owned the rights to the MoM license asked for a ridiculous amount of money for the rights to the title. Instead we're getting a spiritual successor... and a darn good one by the looks of it!

This looks like a game to watch, could become great if done properly

Haven't found a worthy TBS game since Heroes of MM 3. Age of Wonders and Shadow Magic came close. I will definitely be checking this out.

lostn: you and me both. Overlord got nothing compared to Age of Wonders. I do hope this game supports hotseat! :D

Been waiting for this since it has been announced. I didn't want to play the beta because I want to be completely enthralled by the final version. In August I'll finally get to see it. :) I truly hope it is a contestant to surpass Master of Magic as was advertised.

This is my number one game that I'm looking forward to this year :)

I think I might wait for this instead of buying Starcraft 2. Stardock don't treat their customers like exploitable cattle.

This is one of the best games coming out this year for the PC. The game is artistically beautiful and the gameplay... well, it's an improved Master of Magic! August will be a fantastic month for me: I'll still be playing Starcraft II while I buy Elemental: War of Magic, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Mafia II. That's four of my Top10 games of 2010. :D

Hmm....Well Stardock is a great company so this may turn it to be a good game.

I know graphics aren't everything...but this game looks really ugly. I'll almost certainly get it, but wish they could do something about the look.

I'm in the Beta for this and all I can say is this.... THIS IS the BEST Strategy Game being made currently on the market, Period. With the Modding tools alone you can make Elemental into anything you want. If you're a Strategy fan, a old school Masters of Magic fan, or anything like that, you'll be SERIOUSLY MISSING OUT if you don't pick this one up.

No matter what they say, this is my Master of Magic 2. Can't wait!

That's so full of BS! They make it sound like an indie RPG with a tiny budget and no originality or direction. Stardock is one of the last PC only gaming house and is almost the only one still making old style strategy game (Paradox does too). This is basically a game where you are the ruler of one of those kingdoms in which other RPGs are made.

It's very simple. This game is awesome. I can't wait for the full version. Already pre-ordered. Starcraft 2 is only going to be keeping me busy until this game releases.
