ZeniMax Media Online Studios has released a new patch for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of The Elder Scrolls Online. The update, called One Tamriel, "allows you to play anywhere, with anyone, at anytime" by scaling characters to the appropriate level for content you're playing.

"That means you can take your max-level character and help a friend that's new to ESO without having to create a new character; you can play with anyone regardless of their level or alliance. And best of all, this update is completely free to all ESO players," the studio explained on its website.

One Tamriel also includes the ability to form bigger groups and guild: "By dropping Alliance and level-grouping barriers, you will now be able to adventure with many new friends starting today. And, of course, you will be able to go wherever you want as the game no longer restricts your location based on level, so enjoy your newfound exploration."

Elder Scrolls Online relaunched in March 2015 as The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. As part of this, publisher Bethesda did away with the game's mandatory monthly subscription fee, though the game is not entirely free-to-play. According to game director Matt Firor, this tripled the number of players.

Bethesda has never shared the player numbers The Elder Scrolls Online has, but Firor previously said it had around 235,000 people in the game at the same time when it came out on consoles. A further 200,000 were waiting in queues.

One Tamriel launched on on PC in early October. You can find out more about the update here.

Throughout October, The Witches Festival event will be taking place in The Elder Scrolls Online. As part of the event, Tamriel will be populated with demonologists, conjurors, lamias, warlocks, and thaumaturgists, who will take part in incantations, invocations, and conjurations to celebrate the season.
