Elder Scrolls Online delayed, also coming to Xbox One

Bethesda pushes MMORG to spring 2014, confirms game in development for Xbox One, PS4, and PC; console beta launching this year.

The Elder Scrolls Online has been delayed to spring 2014, publisher Bethesda has announced. The game was previously targeted to launch later this year.

In addition, Bethesda confirmed that on top of PC and PlayStation 4, The Elder Scrolls Online will launch for Microsoft's Xbox One.

In a statement, game director Matt Frior said fans have requested console versions of The Elder Scrolls Online since the project was first announced last year.

A beta for the console version of The Elder Scrolls Online will begin later this year.

Yeah, I have friends who play Skyrim on console, they don't mind the controls. People who are used to it don't mind. But my girlfriend plays Skyrim on the laptap, so now that I've hooked the PC up to the TV, She'll probably want to play Skyrim at 55". But do you know the chances that she'd use a gamepad over mouse/keyboard .... zero. I don't understand why consoles haven't embraced mouse/keyboard when it's appropriate. It's one reason I'm excited about kinekt and other attempts to bring in new inputs. Gamepads are great, but they are not the best input device for all games. It's sad, that players aren't given real options.

With this news that makes Sony have nothing over Microsoft.

So, they are releasing the game next year or just the consoles have to wait until next year?

Wow! now I actually care about this Elder Scrolls game, because I'm gonna be able to play it. Awesome! Hopefully we can see more PC-type games on consoles.

I like how the title of the article only announces they're planning on bringing it to the xbone but fails to mention there is a ps4 version in the works as well.

To be fair, it will be coming to PC and XBox one in Spring of 2014. PS4 is to be determined. Delayed by about 6 months probably.

We need a good mmorpg on consoles and if they can make it happen I applaud them.

This game is going to flop big time, Bethesda is known for having very buggy games and for an MMO that is unacceptable. Especially if they do some monthly payment option.

Why do they keep front paging these "It's on Xbox One too" reports as if it was a surprise publishers would want to put games on as many systems as they can, tell us but leave it under the console it's prudent too's page.

Dubious about this. Sure it's by Zenimax, but thats only one step away from going all 'Blizzard' and reapropriating Bethesda proper.

Played the BETA, nothing like the normal Elder Scrolls games. Why even release an Elder Scrolls game when it's just gonna be another MMORPG.

this game looked nothing like an elder scrolls game any way...

I'm not looking forward for this thing, and I love elder scrolls.

i told you guys, i told you the xbox one would be the death of the PC gaming. I means its bad enough that xbox one games wont ever come on PC, but now they taking PC games and turning them in to xbox one games before the game is even out! I mean itsgreat for xbox one to have a mmo, but its not right that pc gamers have to wait.

alpha_unit97

lol at how people think it will be dumbed down for consoles. If anything it'll be jacked up, cause you know, it's next gen technology?

@PsychicKiller82 Yes it does. Cheaper in every way oh and it runs DD11 Xbox runs DD 9. i could list more but we have just had E3 so i don't no how you could already have forgot all the other things Sony has on top of Xbox!

@huerito323 No PC games made originally for PC should stay on PC, they ruined the glory that was Diablo with D3 all because console player didnt want to buy a decent computer to play.

@HookedonPhonicx you are aware bethesda is not making the game zenimax online is, bethesda is basically just overseeing it

Mallareon
Mallareon

@LoveGiant they are trying to appeal to a broader audiance, does it matter that much its not like they are scrapping the elder scrolls standard they said they would continue to make the elder scrolls the way we know them (mmo seperate). They are trying something new if it fails it fails, if not awesome.

@alpha_unit97 There is NO CHOICE. IT must be dumbed down. a  controller simply doesn't not have nowhere near the amount of buttons needed to operate a full mmo.

I was very disappointed that the next gens didn't make a gamepad like the WIIU pad. WIIU is acutally the only console whoch could operate a fully featured MMO cause you can have lots of touch buttons in addition to normal buttons.

Update: You cant also write text chat in a reasonable way

huerito323
huerito323

@Cs_Rammstein @huerito323 That's funny, the original Diablo released on PS1, nothing was ruined for the PC version.

Are you saying Diablo 3 failed because of consoles? lol how are consoles even relevant to D3's failure?

Mallareon

@thenephariouson @Halloll very doubtful, xbox/ps4 wont beable to handle it as well as a good pc would throw in their massive 3way pvp it will be dissaterous. It will strain the systems too much esspecially since its a single sharded server. The only reason the final fantasy games make it to consols in cross platform is because they lack pvp and use multiple servers. plus i would think having a mouse/keyboard puts controller players at a disadvantage in that environmeant. If anything ps4/xbox maybe would be linked together but not with pc

@edinko using kinect/smartglass combo should sort out a lit of UI difficulties like inventory management and chat. You could use voice commands/ a tablet to interact witht these components. I think it was wise not to include a wiiu gamepad, it would drive up the cost and unless you make it separate to the main controller it ruins ergonomics of an otherwise excellent controller. Smartglass is there for developers to use, and users can choose which device they want to use for that experience, rather than forcing them into expensive hardware that is otherwise useless to them.

stephen2532
stephen2532

@acelogan1989 @alpha_unit97 the UI is the big one but they do dumb down gameplay like u get with your traditional mmo like rift for example that needs a ton of hot keys

Mallareon
Mallareon

@Oneturtledown @edinko maybe you should research the game a little more, a console controller has enough buttons to run this mmo, it isnt the standard 30+ skills you get what 5-6 skills not including your standard attack/block at one time. And im pretty sure it still stands that you cant switch those skills out during combat (minus your weapon swap for a different skill set

edinko
edinko

@Oneturtledown @edinko like I posted elsewhere. The smartglass is of very limited use. You don't have 4 hands and you cannot operate a gamepad and a tablet in real time in a fast situation. You could use it out of combat but in a situation that needs to be fast its useless.

ACtaully it was pretty stupid to not include something like the WIIU pad INSTEAD of Kinect. I mean how long can a man suffer to yell at TV with voice commands? 5 minutes? 10? before you are completely fatiqued and don't want to say a word.

stephen2532
stephen2532

@alpha_unit97 @stephen2532 @acelogan1989 its little bit more than that key binds work a lot better from my experience from open friends liste and stuff like that than the controller opening menus etc. have u tried this with key binds on PC ?

alpha_unit97
alpha_unit97

@stephen2532 @acelogan1989 @alpha_unit97 Ummm, if you paid any more attention to this game, you would know there's only five abilities on the hot bar, not 20 or 30. So what's so hard about doing it like KOA: Reckoning, where you held down R1 and pressed triangle, circle, X and square (A, B, X, Y on Xbox) to cast?
