Eidos had something to smile about this week; the company released its financial results for its third fiscal quarter, which ended on Dec. 31, 1998. Those figures showed that both the company's revenue and its profit increased during that period.

Eidos' quarterly revenues stood at 121.5 million pounds (US$201.7 million), up from 81.3 million pounds for the same period last year. Eidos' before-tax profit for the quarter was 46.1 million pounds ($76.6 million; 1.63 pounds or $2.70 per share), which compares with a profit of 29.1 million pounds (1.08 pounds per share) the company reported for the same period last year.

"We look forward to building on the Company's exceptional performance with a consistent pipeline of premium releases in the final quarter of our current fiscal year and beyond," said Eidos chairman Ian Livingstone. "The current quarter sees the release of Akuji: The Heartless, Gex III: Deep Cover Gecko, Warzone 2100, UEFA Champions League, FA Manager, Official Formula 1 Racing, and Championship Manager 3." Akuji: The Heartless and Gex III are Crystal Dynamics titles (Eidos acquired Crystal Dynamics in November 1998).
