Eidos creating Monster Lab for Wii, DS

The Tomb Raider publisher is hard at work on a new action RPG game.

Not content with officially announcing just one game--the first today being Just Cause 2--Eidos has revealed that another new project is in the works.

Monster Lab is being developed by Backbone Vancouver for the Nintendo Wii and DS. The game is set in the Uncanny Valley, where players will take on the role of an apprentice scientist who can create monsters from some 100 million possible combinations of monster parts.

The Wii version will feature online elements, including the ability to challenge and compete with others in monster-versus-monster combat, and to trade items and monster parts.

The game will also feature gesture-based combat, exploration, quests, and a range of minigames. Monster Lab is due for release sometime in 2008.

Wii is getting too many annoying 'minigames' in their games.

Sounds like a boosted "Amazing Island" (NGC), I like that game in regards to creature creating, it just didnt have anything interesting to do with them, I hope these guys manage to pull through with this idea.

100 million combinations...yea that's real great, but I doubt spore's combinations can even be calculated due to the fact that all of the parts can be tweaked so much. If you're looking for customization, get spore. If you're looking for something else wait for them both to come out and read the reviews.

Hahah... Takes place in Uncanny Valley, eh? Nice little nod there. Wonder just how interesting this will be.

Spore needs to hurry out and be released before it's "ground breaking new gameplay mechanics" have already fallen behind the curve. :(! EDIT: I take it back. This looks entirely different, at least in terms of style. I realize it's dumb to compare two games that have yet to be released, but I'm thinking Spore's going to be the better game.

So is this gonna have psychopathic monsters with cursing issues? If so, I'm guessing it'll feature terrible gameplay. Ha, I'll pass.

So...much...potential... Have...feeling...Eidos...will...screw...it...up. On the other hand, they may not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
