Edge Discusses the Future of His WWE Network Show

Adam "Edge" Copeland retired from wrestling in the WWE back in 2011, but since then, he's made the transition into acting on shows like Haven and The Flash. More recently, Copeland and former tag team partner Jay "Christian" Reso developed and produced The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness for the WWE Network, which had a very successful first season.

In addition, Copeland is appearing on the new Amazon Prime series Bookaboo, which debuts on October 28 in the US and UK. The new series celebrates the fun of adults and children reading together. Celebrities appear on each episode and share their favorite books with Bookaboo, a rock n' roll drumming dog who always needs to read.

Copeland spoke with GameSpot about his involvement in Bookaboo as well as the future of The Edge and Christian show.

GameSpot: How did you get involved with Bookaboo?

Adam Copeland: I got asked if I was interested in doing Bookaboo, saw an episode and immediately said yes. It looked like a LOT of fun. Which it was.

Why is it important to you?

It's important to me because, first and foremost, it promotes reading. Reading for children, but also the importance of parents reading to their children. It's so important to the development of their vocabulary and an amazing bonding opportunity.

As a father, how often do you read to your kids?

I read to my kids every night. Not a night missed. If I'm in Ireland, and with the time difference, I will film myself reading a book for that night and send it to Dropbox so Beth [Copeland's wife] can still play it for them. So even while I'm sleeping or working, they still get our nightly routine of dad reading them to bed. Thank you, modern technology.

What book will you be talking about on your episode?

It's a book called Monsters Love Underpants. Since we filmed and saw the episode, Lyric--my almost 3 year old--has read it consistently. She knows it so well she recites it back to me.

What did you like about the Amazon Prime series?

Bookaboo is a rock'n'roll drumming dog who needs a book read to him before he goes on stage. What is not to love about this little guy? Three of my favorite things: rock music, check; dogs, check; reading, check.

Have you ever thought about writing a children's book yourself? Or maybe taking the fun and charisma you brought to the Edge & Christian Show and appearing on a children's television show?

Well, this is me appearing on a children's show, so yes! And also yes to wanting to write a children's book. It's actually been a long obsession of mine to publish a children's book. Between Bookaboo and my work with Canada Reads, this has bolstered that idea. The ideas are still embers on the fire.

Will we be getting a second season of The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness on the WWE Network?

We will. At some point. It's just become very difficult to coordinate our schedules and get us in the same place at the same time, let alone write an entire season.

Between the skits, green screening, gathering other stars, TEACSTTROA seemed like a ton of work. How long did it take all of that to come together?

For the amount of work we did and the content we got out there, it would take a non-WWE production at least 6 months. We did all of it in about a month, in terms of filming. Editing and our production team never stopped working, like ever. The writing was an ongoing process throughout, and continues constantly.

In your opinion, who is the greatest tag team of all time?

Greatest is so subjective, but as a fan I came up in the British Bulldogs, Rockers, Hart Foundation, Demoltion, Brainbusters WWF era, so all of those teams hold a special place to me. I didn't get NWA; otherwise, I know the Midnight Express, Rock n Roll Express, and Road Warriors would be in there too.

What are your thoughts on The New Day?

They're great. Having fun, and it shows. Like E&C, they're being given an opportunity--it seems without handcuffs--to just be an extension of their idiotic, and I mean that in a good way, selves, and that's when the best stuff happens.

Considering you were one of the few wrestlers that announced their retirement on television, what did you think of the Sasha Banks fake retirement angle?

Didn't see it, but all is fair in wrestling. If anything it's a huge acting hurdle to try and leap when you've seen actual heartfelt retirements before and probably have no real acting experience. Tough spot to put her in.

Do you still listen to "Metalingus?" [Edge's intro music] Have you played it for your kids?

"Metalingus" still comes on random shuffle occasionally, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me an extra boost. Got to see Alter Bridge [The band behind Edge's intro music] live a few weeks ago, and it was nice to see the reaction that song gets for them. They're an amazingly talented band, and I'm glad I could be a small part in getting earholes pointed their way.
