EA's Battlefield 4 poll shows more excitement for multiplayer

82 per cent of people are anticipating Battlefield 4's multi-player more than its singleplayer.

82 per cent of Battlefield 4 fans are looking forward to the upcoming game's multiplayer over the single-player campaign, if publisher EA's current poll on the official Battlefield Blog is to be believed.

The poll, which has been running since March 27 and has seen 39,796 votes at time of writing, asks players what they're looking forward to in Battlefield 4 the most: multiplayer or single-player. 82 per cent of respondents--32,706 votes--said multiplayer.

18 per cent of respondents said they were anticipating Battlefield 4's single-player campaign over its multiplayer.

Swedish developer DICE has previously confirmed that, unlike Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 will not feature a co-op campaign.

Despite the poll's results, no information about Battlefield 4's multiplayer has currently been made public. DICE officially unveiled Battlefield 4 at GDC 2013, showing off a 17-minute single-player gameplay demo. DICE has said the campaign will track many different elements and incorporate a multiplayer sensibility into the single-player.

EA has confirmed that a Battlefield 4 beta will be happening later in the year, with early access currently promised to those who purchased last year's Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Battlefield 4 will launch in fall 2013. So far the game has been confirmed for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

While I'm somewhat excited to experience BF4 on my new PC (since I have BF3 on Xbox), I'm not as thrilled about it as I would have been had they announced a 2142 re-make. As the very best version of the BF franchise, it's a shame it's received no love to this point.

In watching the promo footage, I can see some of the elements from MoH:WF that made that game great and notice how seamlessly they've been incorporated into BF4's mechanics. The game looked pretty fluid and the graphics were sharp. One can only hope for a truly immersive experience on both the single and multi player sides.

I don't think that a new BF was necessary given that BF3 is still somewhat fresh (EG was just released last month!) and is still going strong. Given that BF2 still has solid play and the game is 7+ years old, I think BF4 is a bit premature. I'm not all that surprised though given how it's all about competing with the CoD benchmark. Sadly though, in doing so, the deep and engaging game that is Battlefield becomes somewhat watered down and little more than a prettier clone with vehicles. http://battlefield4blogger.com

Saying BF players are more interetsed in multiplayer than single player is like saying a dog prefers licking its own balls compared to licking an electric fence

prepare to be DLC raped...probably including co-op DLC.

This has got to be one of the dumbest poll questions ever.

"What is the BF franchise know for?" Team-based multiplayer.

"What is the BF franchise good at?" Team-based multiplayer.

"What is the BF franchise not so good at because they had never done it before?"Single player campaign.

"What did the BF franchise do well in BF3 that they are foolishly not going to do in BF4?" Team-based multiplayer co-op missions

"So, are you more looking forward to what they do well, that is team-based multiplayer, or are you looking forward to what they don't do as well, and that you may only play once or twice, that is single player campaign (sorry but you can't vote for co-op because we're too foolish to make that for BF4)?"

ANSWER =

"D'uh, let me think now... d'uh, hmmmmm,... d'uh, I guess I'll say multiplayer - d'uh, is that the right answer boss?"

Seriously, what a waste of time and polls...

DICE usually does a good job of listening to their fanbase. I think they'll polish off the campaign this time around to make it a true 100 percent amazing game. They've always given me my money's worth. Love this Dev team. I still rock BF3 to this day with my good friends online. The campaign was "ok" in BF3, but BC is better and humorous. Let's see when BC3 comes out too!

It's not really surprising, battlefield has always been more about the multiplayer, Since this is EA though they'll probably mess even that up.

No suprise there, but it does suck it misses co-op.. The extra weapons you could only unlock with that just gives it a nice touch

people nowadays are more interested in multiplayer than singleplayer!since last year at  every game press event most asked question was multiplayer based!i enjoy singleplayer alot!but on a more competitive level like a tourney multi is fine with me!no wonder aliens colonial marines suffered!the multiplayer experience was made central to the detriment of single player!don't listen to them dice and ruin battlefield 4!its got so much potential!

Battlefield is the only game I buy for the multiplayer...so these stats do not suprise me. I will play the single player but the game's multiplayer is where the action is.

I learned some new things today.

Huey's are still used ??

The water is several thousand feet deep right next to the shoreline of a beach.

Speaking of realism. EA, from the crap you did with BF3, BF4 won't roll well, I can guarantee you that mch already.

I'm so glad they did this poll, I would have never guess that people wanted to play MP! HOLY S#!T!

And in other news, EA's BF4 poll also revealed that their fanbase consisted of mentally retarded individuals.

I can't understand why they they dont just make Bad Company their campaign title and focus Battlefield on multiplayer, at least then the two franchises will be different in something besides quality in storyline.

Also the loss of Co-Op is a real shame, I enjoyed playing those and thought adding Co Op DLC was a missed opportunity...

Well of course.  The SP in these games are forgettable.  Spec Ops: The Line was the last memorable military shooter for me.  Actually, it might be the ONLY memorable military shooter I've played.

SirNormanislost
SirNormanislost

Well BF3 was the first core game to actually have a real campaign and it was a complete waste of time BF2 never had a campaign instead it had loads of MP maps and that was a far superior game

charlieholmes

Here's what I remember. The COD game where it tossed you back and forth between US, Brits, and Russians in WWII was for me the last epic SP game I've played (when it comes to warfare, not including other SP FPS games). The first Modern Warfare was good but was short to me. Then came the advent of MP focus which is fine. But, one or the other is always going to lose out in production times and value when they go about trying to put both experiences together nowadays. So, I wouldn't mind at all if they split the two cuz I'm now waiting for the bargain bin on the COD and BF series cuz I'm not much into the MP. Stop pumping shit out every year and instead go with a two year cycle SP and MP games alternating or something. I don't have the exact answer but they've lost me at this point with their production philosophy.

rad8045

I bet the MP on BF4 is exactlly the same as the MP on BF3.

RenegadeGR

BF3 SP was crap, MOH:WF SP was crap, the 17min SP demo of BF4 looked crap; No shit people will be more excited about the MP.

gamespot how is this news worthy. of course its like that im  surprised singlepalyer even got 18. for me the singleplayer looks awesome but the muti is insane how good it will be.

charlieholmes

That's because we gamers know that the SP will be crap anyways like so many games nowadays. SP is quickly going away. How bout asking the question of do you think a proper investment in the SP will be made. Probably not.

GameBeaten

If that's true, then why bother abandoning Battlefield 3 if Battlefield 4 is just going to be basically the same thing, but with better visuals?

hasancakir

A veteran battlefield player usually plays singleplayer less than 10 hours but plays multiplayer (like me) over 500 hours. So I think excitement for singleplayer is pretty much nonsense :)

MrHanky35
MrHanky35

18% polled were COD only fans who thought battlefield had a campain. (wile it may have had it, did anyone actually play it!?) MP was amazing enough.

Just take the Single Player out, it was garbage in the first place!

The problem is EA thinks these poll results can be applied to all games and that is not the case.

I was wanting to say something clever about the stupidity of this article, but the article is so stupid, it has made me dumber for reading it.

Dragon_Nexus
Dragon_Nexus

Well obviously, since every FPS campaign EA has farted out since and including Bad Company 2 has been trying to copy the Call of Duty series without trying to do anything new or interesting.

Guys...Bad Company 1 was awesome because it was open, given a light hearted tone and a set of objectives that weren't "Stop the Russians/Terrorists from using nukes/EMPs to destroy America". So what happens in the sequel? Anything that happened in the first game is completely disregarded so we can prevent the Russians from dropping an EMP on America as they invade it. Yaaaaaa-awn.

Things that they should add but they won't :

- Ability to create game and play with friends in LAN

- Singleplayer AI for singleplayer skirmish like in Battlefield 2 and 2142, and as additional players in LAN like Counter Strike

Wow who knew people bought the Battlefield series for multiplayer? I would have much rather had them put the singleplayer money into more multiplayer maps.

Duh. They include a 4 hour long single player campaign just to film commercials.

NetBiosError

You know what would be amazingly cool?

If they removed the gameplay from the trailers and choreographed/animated every bit to make a cool pre-release real-time rendered episodic series (they're already pretty neat if you take out the gameplay), use it to show new capabilities of Frostbite, set up the conflict and factions of the multiplayer, and then leave the episodes in the final game as tech demos and benchmarks.

People who like single-player will get their story fix, it'll be pure marketing for EA as it'll be all pre-release, and DICE doesn't have to worry about having a massive chuck of gameplay sitting on people's hard drives that they touch once, stop giving a shit about, and never go back to.
