Earth and Beyond site update

Westwood updates the official Earth and Beyond site with info on how the game came together.

Comments

Westwood recently posted a new article to its site entitled "Building a Framework," which discusses how Earth and Beyond went from a few concept sketches done in 1997 to a full game. "Shortly after Tiberian Sun, Brett and I were talking about what I was going to do next. We were all playing Ultima Online, and we said, 'Look, they're making money at this,'" Eric Wang, producer for Earth and Beyond, said in the article. "Brett was ready to kick off this project he had been working on. He really wanted to investigate the science fiction genre with an online game; the fantasy genre was getting pretty crowded, but there was no science fiction."

Earth and Beyond is a massively multiplayer RPG set within the far reaches of space. Players can assume the role of any three classes--warrior, explorer, trader--in the game, and work to receive a better ship as the game progresses.
