EALA hiring for 'brand-new first-person shooter'

Publisher's Los Angeles-based studio puts out call for art director to lead development on "the best project we've ever worked on."

In late 2007, Electronic Arts Los Angeles took a crack at returning its Command & Conquer franchise to the first-person shooter genre with Tiberium. Ultimately, however, the project proved to be a doomed venture, with EA suspending work on the game less than a year later because it was "not on track to meet the high-quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label," according to a company representative.

The Medal of Honor series was grounded after Airborne.

Now, it appears as if EALA isn't going to let one canceled game stand in the way of its FPS ambitions. In a new job posting for an art director, the developer revealed that it is at work on "a brand new first-person shooter project in the very beginning stages of development." The job requisition gave no indication as to which themes would be incorporated into the project, saying only that it will be "the best project we've ever worked on."

EALA is perhaps best known for its World War II-themed Medal of Honor shooters, a franchise that has been dormant since 2007's Medal of Honor: Airborne and Medal of Honor Heroes 2. Of note, in an interview with GameSpot in August 2008, EA Games president Frank Gibeau confirmed that the publisher had future plans for the franchise, saying, "You'll hear more about Medal of Honor in the future. I can guarantee you that."

I'd like to see Battlefield for the Wii!

Actually, it would be nice if ANYONE would make a good old fashion FPS - not political, racial, social messages hidden in the story - just a good blaster. I thought Doom III was going to give us that kind of viseral, no-reason action - but it was a letdown. Painkiller was more like Doom III should have been. We all know what's going on with Duke Nukem, and Quake IV was a major disaster. Just the fact that I am talking about games that came out over 5 years ago should attest to the paltry FPS releases over the last few years - and that's where at least the PC was getting most of it's bread and butter. We have a definite void here - and someone needs to fill it, if we can get a developer or two who will release games that aren't necessary created to rake in online revenue...

We need a really (I mean really) good FPS. Not 'just' another military shooter (yawn). Halo-Half Life -esq would be the area to shoot (pun intended) for.

Honestly, I can't play shooters, unless there is something special about them. Like Darksector. It had many unique factors. Or how Infamous is going to be. I am also welcome for games like Resistance, and Half Life. They had unique story quirks. But, the Medal of Honor series is fun, I can give it that. It does not really do anything special (in my opinion) but I do have a lot of fun with it.

Kill Medal of Honor. Let it die off. I'm hoping it's Black 2. With even more destruction and graphics on par with KZ2. Then EA would have a winner on it's hands.

Hmmm, they should make a game like Freedom Fighters (ps2) where you control a resistance, and can participate in guerilla warfare against a numerically superior enemy while hiding in the city. thatd be neat.

With a billion dollar in losses you'd think they start going back to basics and stop overspending on big budget games that offer little more than your average movie in gameplay. But maybe EA is just too old, fat and lazy to update it's methods.

This sounds exciting. Hope to see it or an announcement at E3.

As long as they try to do something fresh. Maybe they can set it in a different time period, so the weapons are more difficult to use? Not necessarily muskets, unless they add a hand to hand combat option, but maybe pre-WW 1? Just to add something different that isnt just a gimmick, like in Timeshift or Fracture. Dont get me wrong, those games look kind of fun, but I would like to see some innovation sometime. As a history student, frankly, WWII is the period (and WWI, or modern military history in general) that the layman loves but historians, even scholars, find incredibly dull. Many of the books written about military history are by ex soldiers or other non-scholars with a special interest in it. I would love it if shooters werent so focused on world wars or the middle east, or in a war that America has participated in just so they can milk the fact you are on the traditionally winning side. That alone probably sells these games. And the aliens thing? Such an overused cliche, though at least with some creative design, the aliens can be a little more exciting.

Why dont more devs utilise both 1st and 3rd person perspectives ala R6 Vegas 1 & 2, as i thought that was a brilliant and truly original idea, it just seems a shame that the idea has'nt cottened on. Regarding WW2 games, so long as they're great games i simply dont care what era they're set in.

Next up is Medal of Honor: Iraq. Go to war with a heavy metal beat. Seriously. M1 tank crews were listening to death metal tunes on the intercom.

I'm going to say it again to all you idiots out there, what is the difference between a first person shooter and 3rd person shooter but the camera? Instead of behind, it's at eye level. Nobody complains about there being too many 3rd person games but there's how many more of them??? Maybe they should make another party game, yeah, there's not enough of those right?? Or how about they go the way of THQ and Ubisoft and make 50,000 Petz and Dancing and Cooking games??? Yeah because we need a lot more of those too right?? God people.

As if the market needs ANOTHER 1st-person shooter. Sheesh!

@duke-nukem11 & firehawk998 wouldn't it be more logical for criterion to make black 2, as they were the ones that made the first one?

firehawk998

Well heres me hoping that the new FPS is something from the Command and Conquer series( though they cancelled it) or atleast something like a futuristic shooter or a sequel to black.

In my opinion Call of Duty Gameplay never changes. You know it's always the same(of course it's fun but never changes). Hope Medal of Honor has something new.

@game_overdose54 @SWATMAN4 Thank you for voicing sanity. Now I know I'm not alone, and that other peolpe still like MoH. I've liked the series since the first game on the PS1, and I hope it continues and this is that continution.

yay i was hoping that they would make a new MOH game im sick of COD

I really don't care about the setting, because WWII at least has a set time with actual battles. modern war games usually are completely fictional. I love Medal of Honor and I hope they return soon.
