EA unveils physics puzzler Create

Publisher's Bright Light studio prepping user-generated content-heavy platformer for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Mac, Wii for November.

Sony and Media Molecule scored substantial success with the PlayStation 3-exclusive Little Big Planet, which relied heavily on user-generated content and distinctive charm. Taking a page out of that playbook, EA today announced Create, a family-friendly puzzle platformer that relies heavily on the creativity of its users. Developed by EA Bright Light, the game will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, and Wii this November.

Barrels and crates are the key to creativity.

The first trailer for the game shows players creating levels with the Wii Remote. These scenes appear to present a variety of physics and platforming challenges. Two challenges visible in the trailer were "get the barrels to the goal" and "keep the buggy safe" through a physics-based obstacle course. EA also hopes to encourage communal play with Create, offering additional rewards based on the number of players who participate in the game.

The trailer also offers glimpses at various challenges that gamers will undertake. In one, a bike rides a skateboard through what appears to be an obstacle course. Another shows a makeshift vehicle trundling down a slope, pushing a bunch of balls into a goal area.

Create will let gamers share the levels they have made online on each of the platforms, save the Wii. EA also confirmed that the PS3 version will support Sony's new motion-sensing controller, Move, though Microsoft's Kinect peripheral was not mentioned.

First N+, then LBP, then Kudo Game Lab, and now Create?! I just LOVE these user-created games :)

@AlphaCommando You know, I could certainly do with that concept, original or not ;)

So EA sat around a table and went "What if we fused Scribblenauts with Minecraft?".

@Blade8Aus It's EA - maximum profit is their collective goal.

Hmm... well, I could buy this for my PS3 or Wii... OR I could just buy LBP2 and create puzzle games, plus a variety of other genres, plus there are bound to be 1000's of other UGC to play with within a few days of its release. Still, if you don't have a PS3 this game might be worth a look.

So is this sort of like Garry's Mod?

Give me more info and I might buy the PC version! Also, does anyone else think they may have a tad too many platforms? After all, they need a large community support for each platform.

I personally think "Crappy" would have been a better title. This has my interest though: "A bike rides a skateboard" - The bike is riding by itself?! Maybe they meant a BIKIE!! We have a lot of Bikies here in Australia - most of them balding criminals!! It is good to see they are getting some new lines of work through EA! Paying their debt to society!

I don't usually like 'family friendly' games, but I do really like physics based games. Not expecting much from EA but they have been getting better in the last couple years.

Are you kidding... a LBP rip off? EA doing what it does best... stealing someone else's innovation and doing a lame version of it. Ridiculous.

i just wish it looked less sterile. this is like the Valium of video games. i liken it to guitar hero. if you want to do something creatively, do it! don't do it in a game where ultimately its not yours. you want to make a game, make one. you want to play a song, then play one on an instrument.

Lol at all the kids calling this a LBP ripoff. If anything it's a Crazy Machine ripoff. LBP was not the first to come up with the idea of user-generated content, there was some many other games before it. Not saying LBP is a bad game or anything like that, just saying that LBP really isn't the original.

I like the idea of user-created puzzles. Wonder how complex the puzzles can be created to be? Is this to be more puzzle game than platform game? A game like this is tailor-made for the Xbox Live service. Kudos to Media Molecule's continued success with LittleBigPlanet; immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Hopefully EA's Create brings something new to the table.
